Hi, I would agree with Rob, the civilian dress had changed to a longer coat by then. I've mixed in some ECW figures for variey in my Irish foot but have mostly used Dixon figures, they do a nice 'rebel' figure.
Cheers
Simon
The lace wars scenario book 'The wars of the grand alliance' has illustrations for some jacobite flags. Antrims is green with red cross. On the cross a crown and harp. In each quarter there is a grey cloud on the right hand side with an arm coming from it holding a sword. Eustaces is buff coloured w...
Here's some extra info on the Jacobite Irish uniforms that I've come across that hopefully might be of interest. Lord Clare's dragoons were known as the yellow dragoons, this could be because they wore yellow/buff coloured coats or had a red coat with yellow facings. There was an irish regt of foot ...
Guys, many thanks, you've been a great help. The link with the scanned plates is very useful for the flags. Have invested in the C A Sapherson books and they are very useful. I'm rapidly realising that for the period 1989 to 1697 theres not tons of info to go by and often some of it is contradictory...
Hi everyone I'm after some info on French cavalry uniforms and flags. A while ago, I purchased some painted Dixon's cavalry with grey coats and red cuffs, the saddle cloth is red with a yellow trim. On the base the previous owner has written french line cavalry. The only info I have on French cavalr...
Hi everyone,
Just a quick question. If you use 5 figures for the odd cavalry squadron, does it still test to charge and fight as 6 figures?
Many thanks
Simon
Have been doing some calculations using the 'Review of the Royal Army 1/2 October 1989' in the osprey book on the Battle of the Boyne. Overall the ratio of firearms to pikes comes out at about 3:1 but when you look at the individual regiments and rounding to a whole figure, there are wide variations...
Hi everyone,
i'm wondering what books people would recommend for the war of the league of Augsburg and Irish Jacobite war? I'm looking for accounts of the wars and battles as opposed to uniform info. Also, any good fiction?
Best wishes
Simon
Barry, many thanks for your reply, I think my preference will be to add a few highland figures to the regt for a bit of variety. Interestingly, the osprey book includes the review of the army on 1/2 October 1989 and lists Antrims regt as having 63 officers, NCO's, drummers etc, 411 with firearms, 46...
Hi everyone, I'm new to the LOA period and am avidly reading up on it. I'm currently reading 'The Seige of Derry' by Carlo Gebler. On page 69 it talks about the arrival of the Earl of Antrims regt in Derry. It says they were called Redshanks because of their - legs and says they were all highlanders...
