Re: Nassau-Saarbrucken-Ottweiler flag, 1690

Just a quick note which might help someone regarding uniform for this regiment. I mentioned previously that Sapherson, said he had no uniform sources but on 16th May 1689 the London Gazette describes a deserter as dressed in a grey coat lined blue. I looked up this issue of the London Gazette online...

Re: inniskilling foot regiments (uniform/flags), 1690

Thanks for the information Pete, it is very useful. If you have any other information on the Inniskilling regiments foot or the dragoons, I'd love to hear it. I am not tackling the Dragoons for a while yet but I had been planning to do them in a similar style to the foot with differing shades of gre...

Re: Smaller battles rules for the period?

I am definitely interested in this.

Although I decided to start small and paint units from the battle of the Boyne ;) smaller battles would be a good gateway attract some of my friends into starting in the period The people I know are more used to ww2 skirmish and the like

Re: Gardes te Voet

Definitely is a very interesting period but always hard to get a definitive take on things.. although that vagueness of somethings can be fun too.

My approach is to try to make sure I don't paint something which is definitely wrong while thinking it is correct ;)

Re: Danish Prince George foot regt

Great looking figures and bases.

I didn't know the coats should be grey, but the green does look nice!

Re: Gardes te Voet

Kris, would again suggest that you use your patented "Hanmer Tawney" should give you the right tinge of dull orange. - Mike. Thanks Mike, I might just do this at least for the first battalion. I have had a bit of time to kill so have enjoyed experimenting. The orange tawny from Hanmer's is as I thi...

Re: Gardes te Voet

The facing colour is only orange because I went through the exact same process that Kris is going through, thinking about red, yellow, ochre and finally settling on orange because they would tie in with the flags and the unit would stand out. And because I liked the ones that Barry had already done...

Re: Gardes te Voet

thanks Ray I have seen those already. they are great figures. I am just playing around with the facing colour. I think my problem is i saw the yellow plate first. I know what you mean Barry. I am still experimenting. I am trying to do a colour like in the osprey on another figure (a more golden yell...

Re: Gardes te Voet

Saw that plate already as someone had linked the collection for me here. It was the yellow colour in that plate that I was trying to produce in the recipe above fpr a test figure http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/ad315/necrosis_bb/Wargames%20-%20LoA/dutch_guard_wip.jpg Photo isn't the best, the col...

Re: Gardes te Voet

Just to add the yellow I used on my test figure was (all vallejo), german camo orange ochre with a wash of sephia, highlighted with orange ochre and then yellow ochre so it wasn't a bright yellow or anything. Ill maybe mess around with another figure to give it a more orange tone and see how it look...

Re: Gardes te Voet

Hi Barry, I saw the flags on that advert. I am looking forward to them and the multi-iteration sheet sounds good. I know what you mean about the colours. For me my heart is leaning towards orange but my head is leaning towards yellow. Obviously this is from a position of ignorance compared to a lot ...

Re: Sir John Hanmer's Uniform query, 1690

Mike,

From the sounds of it, I could semi-justify a mix of the two uniforms.
I saw that painting on a website selling a print of it and downloaded to use as a guide

thanks for the information, things make a lot more sense now

Kris

Re: Sir John Hanmer's Uniform query, 1690

Mike, I am still learning a lot about the whole area so your extra information is welcome, and I don't mind being told when some conclusions I draw might be wrong as I don't know enough to know what is relevant or not and it is best to find out early! As for Earle's regiment, they are very high on m...
