Re: Musicians of the British 1st Guards Regiment

Beig, The sources you show are correct. The Foot Guards drummers wore scarlet (red) jackets with the inverted chevron lace on the sleeves (they still do). Foot Guards colours (flags) are different to those of British Regiments of Foot. For the Foot Guards the King's Colour (modern Queen's Colour) ca...

Re: Questions regarding the Light Infantry.

Sergio, Excellent. I think we are gradually seeing an increasing number of Napoleonic Wargames Rules using correct tactics. I have had similar success in discussions with the author of the Black Powder Albion Triumphant supplements. I feel fairly expert on British tactics (I own copies of all their ...

Re: Questions regarding the Light Infantry.

Sergio, Ospreys are OK but are no substitute for historical research. The General Orders issued by Wellington are reproduced below: ----------- Wellesley lands at Mondego Bay, Portugal – 1 August 1808. Extract from General Order issued at Lavos on 3 August 1808 The Lieutenant General requests the Ge...

Re: Questions regarding the Light Infantry.

British tactical practice in the Armies commanded by Wellington in the Peninsula and Waterloo was for skirmish screens to be formed as temporary Brigade Light Battalions, by amalgamating all of the light companies in each brigade (plus the 5/60th or Brunswick Oels rifle company in the Peninsula) whe...

Re: Raising an Army

Yes, they had 2 colours, the Kings colour and the regimental colour. The Kings colour is the union flag and should always be on the right hand side of the unit if looking from behind the unit. Bill Unless they were Foot Guards, in which case the King's Colour (on the right) was crimson and the Regi...

Re: What do you use...

Only recently joined the forum, but thought I would mention that my local hobby shop (in UK) sells rolls of scenic paper, designed for model railways, which can be continuously joined together due to the way the scenery is repeated at then ends. These include village scenes, rolling countryside, lake...

Re: Manoeuvre Points Calculation

Barry,

Thanks, that makes sense. The way I read it first was that there could be more MPs available in a multi player game (if Divisional Commanders each had fixed ones as well as the Corps Commander), but how you have explained it is much more logical.

Manoeuvre Points Calculation

Just getting my head around these. I understand that Manoeuvre Points are calculated by each side for each turn. Am I correct in thinking that in a Corps level game with, for example one of the armies having three Divisions, each of three Brigades (but only one player each side), there will only be ...

First Impressions of R2E

My first posting on this forum. I started wargaming as a teenager in Southampton (England) in about 1960, having seen an exhibition of model soldiers by Don Featherstone and Tony Bath in a local department store. I then became one of a group who met at Don's or Tony's houses. My main opponent in tho...
