Re: The Monkey from Hartlepool

Thanks Sir Winston

I saw the story in an investment newsletter of all places and thought it just might be made up.
I never thought to look it up on Wikipedia.
Cheers,

The Monkey from Hartlepool

Is this a true story? Just heard about the monkey from a French ship which floundered in a storm off the coast of Hartlepool in Napoleonic times, was washed ashore dressed as a French sailor. The natives hung him after a trial. I am assuming that the majority of viewers of this post are English/Scot...

A little help with French Uniform Color

Well, first batch of Warfare Miniatures are being primed as we speak (B5) and I'm about to put brush to figure for the first time in almost 15 years. I thought I'd paint up a unit of French musketeers for starters but would like to get some specific information on the shade of "gray" for their unifo...

Re: BLB for 7YW

Now this could turn out to be a very, very interesting thread in which "the group" could offer their thoughts. Moderated of coarse by our esteemed fearless leader. I fear however that Barry does not have enough hours in the day to do it justice.

Just say'in......

A great story, illustrated with great figs! Imagine what one can find in a junk store!!! (The weapons I meant, not the figs!)

Re: A Newcomer's Lament - Part 2

As long as we don't talk politics, I can manage to be (mostly) civil! Actually, I have read every active post on this blog in the last several days and found them rather enjoyable. Speaking of reading, I have read Wikipedia's entries for most of the 17th century wars and my head is still spinning!!!...

Many thanks,

I hope I can paint half that well when I grow up.

Really, they are beautiful.

A Newcomer's Lament - Part 2

As an aside, for all you youngsters out there, the 1972 film The Three Musketeers with Michael York is a must see!!! It's still available on Netflix. Anyway, it is a tribute to Barry, Clarence and all others associated with BLB that I have chosen this era over my beloved Napoleonics. Everything asso...

A Newcomer's Lament

My decision to resume painting after a hiatus of almost 14 years, has resulted in my discovery of the League of Augsburg and the era it represents. Unfortunately, I know little or nothing about the wars of 1660-1720, so my first purchases will be some of the relevant books on the subject. I already ...
