Re: Hanoverian Regiment (later 9B) Lewenhaupt 1693

Wienand,

Robert Hall's book on the Hanoverians lists the Colonel as A.M. Graf von Löwenhaupt. Hall spent a great deal of time in the Hanoverian Archives, so I would rate this information as highly reliable. I know it is not much, but perhaps contributes a little to your query.

He was referring to the ones issued by Venice. It is unfortunate that none survived.

Re: Talon & Claw uniform query

When the Saxon regiments entered Venetian service, they were issued new flags. These were red with a golden Lion of St. Mark facing away from the staff on a green field. In its left paw a silver bladed sword with gold hilt pointed upward, and under its right paw the arms of the Elector of Saxony in ...

Re: Battle of Glenshiel - Swiss ?

Phil,
I believe Sturler was designated garrison in Edinburgh according to Het Staatse Leger. In 1715 there were 6 Dutch National battalions and 5 Dutch Swiss sent to England according to HSL. I can provide the names if you are interested.

Re: Battle of Glenshiel - Swiss ?

Phil,
Sorry. Made a mistake. Huffel was a Dutch National regiment. The Swiss regiment was Sturler of 2 battalions. Apologize for any confusion.

Re: Battle of Glenshiel - Swiss ?

Phil,

According to Het Staatse Leger, Vol IX, Page 645, there were 5 battalions of Dutch Swiss sent to England in 1715. Among them was a Regiment van Hunningen, which might be the regiment you are looking for.
Hope this helps.

Re: MUNSTER TROOPS 1672

I too would be interested in a copy of this picture. Based on the description, it would appear to be that of Regt von Gougreven from May 1679. Do you remember the source for the picture?

Re: Saxon uniforms in NYW?

Here are my notes on Saxon grenadiers, boar spears, etc for 1682-97. Baron, In 1683 the first grenadier company under a Hauptmann von Bose was formed with a strength of 103 men. At the time, it was an independent company. Over the next few years, a grenadier company was added to each infantry regime...

Re: Danish Livgarden til Fods flag

Since no one else has chimed in, I will try to answer your question. In 1701 the Livgarden til fods consisted of 2 grenadier companies and 3 battalions of 6 companies each. One of these battalions was part of the Auxiliary Corps that entered the service of the Maritime Powers in 1701.The flags illus...

Re: Saxon uniforms in NYW?

Günter. That is too bad. I was hoping we finally had information on the cuirassier regiments. My only other comment is that the 1683 date for the Grenadier of the Leibregiment is wrong. The only grenadier unit that early was von Bose's. All the best.

Re: Saxon uniforms in NYW?

Günter,

Thanks once again. Do you have an explanation of the colours plate for the cuirassier regiments? Very interesting. First I have seen anything on this subject.

Re: Saxon uniforms in NYW?

Günter, Thank you for providing these. It is nice to know there are still a few knowledgable people on this forum. The history of grenadiers in the Saxon Army of the period is a bit confusing. In 1683 the first grenadier company under a Hauptmann von Bose was formed with a strength of 103 men. At th...

Re: Scania War Danish grenadier cap badge

Some Danish grenadiers would have worn broad brimmed hats at this time. In Ireland Danish grenadiers in the Williamite campaign of 1689-91 did so.
What is your source for this statement?
