Hopefully it won't be too much of a change, and the forum should work on tablets better now.
Given our ages, I think most of us work better on tablets. 8)

Re: Why not take St. Petersburg?

For those who have not yet seen it, I thoroughly recommend Lucy Worsley's "Empire of the Tsars" (currently available on BBC iPlayer) which covers the reign of Peter the Great in episode 1, including the founding of St Petersburg.

Re: Happy 62nd Bithday Bryce

Sorry to hear your update, Bryce. Let's hope 2018 treats you, and your missus, a lot better and you get back on the painting trail - I, for one, miss your excellent and inspiring brushwork.

A heartfelt, if somewhat belated, happy birthday.

Re: Saxon Gun

Thanks. I was looking at late 1680s/early 1690s. Anything you can dig up would be appreciated, but I think I might just assume it was a long-standing thing and go with the "bumble bee" look anyway, as I like it so much.

Any idea when that colour scheme was first adopted?

Re: Wanted: details of Spanish horse regt c.1680

Thank you, that was all I needed, except to ask did they wear cuirasses in 1680?

I'm looking to include it as part of a "Tangiers Garrison" army for a FoGR competition next February.

Re: Question on English horse

b. In his excellent book "The Army of James II", Stephen Ede-Borrett confirms that the Trumpeters were granted the privilege of wearing Royal Livery (on campaign, they wore the same armour as the rest of the Regiment); I find this interesting - weren't trumpeters supposed to be "separated" from the...

Re: The Army of James II (Helion)

Having just read Wienand's review, I have to say that I am in complete agreement, apart from one point - the focus on the individual regiments. Mr Ede-Borrett does make the point in his introduction that his book is not meant to replace Mr Childs' earlier work. He also adds that virtually all of Mr ...

Wanted: details of Spanish horse regt c.1680

Hi, Can anyone provide me with uniform/horse furniture/flag details for the Duke of Osuna's cavalry ( not dragoon) regiment that served at Tangiers briefly in 1680-83? I believe that the coats were off white/light grey, and the hats were a similar light colour, but I have nothing more on facings, ho...

That black and yellow colour scheme for the gun carriage looks impressive, doesn't it?
