Moan!

The more I learn about and get into this period of history the more I cannot understand the lack of interest from historians. I know that thetre may be 'technical reasons' for some of that - languages etc. But the period has so many titanic battles, sieges, colourful characters, glittering uniforms ...

"A Military Gentleman"

Guys,

Check out the advance publicity for John Ray's forthcoming book. The link is via either Steve Dean or Der Alte Fritz.

His figures and their painting are exquisite! The book should be mouthwateringly inspirational.

Re: Crimea - Where to start?

Hattie, Start your reading with "Hell Riders" by Tery Brighton. It is about THE charge but is well written and very exciting - and moving - to read. Then go on to "Battles of the Crimean War" by W Baring-Pemberton. This is a readable account of all the main actions. After those two, have ago at Flet...

Rick at Flagdude has some Dutch flags already and if you need others all you do is send hima pic and he'll turn it into a flag for you. he did that for me recently with a Bavarian Leib flag. He also has some flags that are not on his website listing - email him.

Eugene's Army: Italian books by Mugnai

Hi Guys,

Has anyone seen or got these books? Any comment/review available? Worth buying?

Is there a new edition out or is there a different set of books coming out?

Best Wishes

Re: Lots of Dragoon news

The enthusiasm on this forum makes me laugh with joy! I love it!

I see Osprey are releasing a book on the French Mousqetaires! I look forard to seeing that - though the timeframe as always is huge.

Does anyone know if it going to be part of series on La Maison ?

Re: Dark Blue Uniforms

Thanks for the tip. The idea for the aurore came as I was leafing through the Osprey on the Dragoons of Naploeon's Guard. I'd also been looking at the lace and trims of various figures and painters and in the end just took the plunge. My boys will win no prizes but I'm pleased with how it has made t...

Re: French 1672 - First Figures

Yes, I agree with the praise. Very good job. And please let us see the detail as it's all useful to newbies in this era like me. I wonder where to put the paint of various bits and in various ways so seeing the work of others is very helpful. Just leafing through the 2nd ed of BLB has given me lots ...

Re: Dark Blue Uniforms

Hi Guys, For my current WIP (and first in a VERY long time!) I have experimrnted with Foundry 'French Blue' as shade and second colour then applied a highlight (reasonably heavy so that I could see it from 3-4 feet away) of Foundry 'Sky Blue' A. This gave me something of the 'brightness' I have been...

WSS Prussian flags

Am I right in thinking that it would be correct enough (for wargaming purposes) to depict WSS Prussians, Bavarians, Danes and Dutch with the first battalions carrying a colour plus a colonel's flag and the second battalions carrying two colours? Sorry if all the info for this is already in other thr...
