Yes, it is for the army as a whole, which can be a real bugger if you are not able to move any of your units for a turn. The percentage of units that can be moved is affected by the quality of the commander so maybe early AWI, the British commanders could be better, but then again maybe offset by th...

Thank you Ray, it helps a great deal. I now know where I went wrong and the cavalry should have persued the broken infantry. I guess they could only test to rein in during the following turn thus the infantry would have waved good bye never to return.

Thanks for all your help.

Ok chaps, in the light of Barry's last post, I played it wrong as the royal regiment joined the melee when, in fact, they could not have done as they cannot charge cavalry. However, in another instance, where another unassociated cavalry squadron charges home and reinforce the melee, they can either...

Thanks Barry, we did it wrong (again). Just one of those situations where either option seems correct although I can now understand your rationale. The cavalry will be stopped from pursuing due to formed infantry standing in their way. By the way, hopefully my club will be running a BLB game at Valh...

cavalry versus infantry melees

I have been reading some of the other posts covering this aspect of the game but have a further question. Two squadrons of cavalry in combat with one infantry battalion, the infantry are then reinforced by another thus the combat continues past the original three rounds. the first infantry unit then...

You can't go far wrong with the war in Ireland, smallish battles with almost allo European nations taking part to a greater or lesser extent. have a look at a couple of blog posts for some flavour. http://mywargamingcorner.blogspot.com/search/label/LEAGUE%20OF%20AUGSBERG http://thamesvalleywargamers...

Re: Q: Cavalry vs Infantry

Hi all, Simon :- Infantry do not have to be in square formation to use their Pikes as long as the regiment has Pikes is nither Shaken or Disordered they count as fighting in the front rank when charged by cavalry. This gives the infantry a 50% saving throw against each casualty e.g. 4, 5 or 6.If the...

The rule works if you follow Barry's ratioale behind it. Infantry with pikes will get a chance to fight back by 'saving throws'. We had a situation recently where the infantry being attacked failed to form the defensive formation, for simplicity in the rules this is called a square, and thus were br...

Units who break after melee

A quick question, although I might have missed it in the book, when an infantry unit break after a melee, does this indicate a rout move or is the unit completely broken and thus dispersed? Similarly, a cavalry squadron who breaks an enemy will test for pursuit, if it fails it carries on. However, i...

Smallish games with BLB

I have read a few posts asking how many units would be needed as a starter to provide a reasonable game. Well, I have decided to chip in and make a suggestion. We played a small game last night with six regiments of foot per side, a couple of squadrons of cavalry and some guns for good measure. I ha...

Yes I am sure a taster will be possible as soon as we've sorted out the book format Simon. In the meantime I may load up some rules segways just to let people have a feel for what the games are like. I will perhaps be extending the playtesting circle a little soon and plan to run a couple of games ...

Looking good Barry, any chance of a taster sometime, maybe not a full pdf but just enough to whet one's appetite (unless I have missed it)?

I am looking forward to these coming out though.

Parkfield Miniatures have some for 25/28mm. What I have done in the past is reduce them by 50% for people who wanted them for 15mm figures, same price, I might even be tempted to add them to my catalogue. http://www.parkfieldminiatures.freeservers.com/FLAGS.htm Alternatively Pendraken has flags for ...
