Re: Early Petrine Army

I don't have them (yet !), but I imagine that the following books from Helion might be useful : MUSCOVY'S SOLDIERS. THE EMERGENCE OF THE RUSSIAN ARMY 1462-1689: https://www.helion.co.uk/browse-title-series-more/century-of-the-soldier-c-1618-1721/books-in-series/muscovy-s-soldiers-the-emergence-of-th...

Re: The English Expedition to Portugal, 1662-1668

Hi there, I have the book (which is a very good read). My understanding is that there was originally 1 Regiment of Horse (Marquis of Schomberg's, of 8 Troops) plus two Regiments of Foot (Henry Pearson's & Francis Moore's). Jonathon Riley's book confirms that the foot regiments 'wore red coats and we...

Re: French uniforms

This is one of those much-debated subjects that pops up regularly on various forums (fora ?) and can result in much gnashing of teeth and pulling of hair. Anyway, my understanding is that, although there would a number of shades, most were off-white /very light cream. Not grey. This post on TMP cove...

Episodes from the GNW

I really liked these paintings illustrating moments from the GNW.

I haven't bought the Compendium (yet) but I think they may be taken from this.

Re: Garde te Paard Question

I've had a look at the extensive Robert Hall CD but unfortunately, this just refers back to Lawson. I've also found a second painting by de Hooghe but can't see a large enough version to make out any details : https://www.historyireland.com/early-modern-history-1500-1700/king-billy/ I think the answ...

This link might be of interest if you are creating a French army (provides details of the coloured Ordonnance flags for a huge range of Regiments) :

Given the publication of 'War of Three Kings', you might find this interesting (taken from a

Re: BLB3 in 6mm

I know that I couldn't complete an entire army with units that size. That's one of the reasons I scaled it down to 24 figs per unit. They certainly don't look as amazing as the large units but they suite me (I am still painting one year on !) This gives you an idea what they look like (page 2 of the...

SteveRcR Not sure if you have seen this thread but it shows an idea of what this could look like : http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,17213.0.html Units this big will certainly test patience and resolve to complete the project ! Best of luck and let us see how you are getting on. Phil

Re: BLB3 in 6mm

Hi there, I've had a look round and, on top of the ideas in my earlier post, would suggest having a go at some of the Table Top Teasers on this site : http://steve-the-wargamer-teasers.blogspot.co.uk/ I haven't looked through them but, from previous experience, they tend to be small scale battles wi...

Re: BLB3 in 6mm

6mm sounds like a great idea. A few thoughts on this : My understanding is that most historical field armies would have been quite large in this period so you are probably looking at either (a) playing part of a bigger battle (eg. the attack on Taviers from the Battle of Ramillies) or (b) creating y...
