Rebellion in the Reign of Charles II book

Just read this book by an ex-member of the ministry of Intelligence about the threats to the Merry Monarchs reign and intelligence services. The usual stuff such as Titus Oates and the Colonel Blood make an appearance but there is also some interesting information including convert operations in ext...

Re: A few questions on BLB3

I like the the idea of flexibility for changing standards although in 10mm minor details like leggings will be very minor. Generally how many battalions of converged grenadiers would be available per side in average game? Also are any of the Dutch regiments from The LOA period useable for the franco...

Re: A few questions on BLB3

Almost the entire Williamite Army which fought in Ireland shipped out to Flanders in 1692 and stayed there till 1697. About 10,000 Jacobites left Ireland in November 1691 to form an Irish Army in exile which fought both in Flanders and in Savoy/Northern Italy. WSS most people know only about the bi...

Re: A few questions on BLB3

Thanks Clarence

Will some of those scenarios be available in the main rule book itself?

Also out of interest is it plausible to have some William's English, Scottish and Dutch regiments from the war in Ireland also serving in the Low Countries?

Re: A few questions on BLB3

Clib will be twitching if you describe him as a genius.. he wears a hair shirt!! .. but I would agree with the description. The book log jam is finally cleared so here is the news: 1. Beneath the Lily Banners The War of Three Kings has gone to the printers. We will begin taking pre-orders on...

Re: The Army of James II (Helion)

Just general uniforms for the nine years war and Ireland.

I do have the Army of Louis XIV so that is a start. The Osprey book on the British Army is tempting.

From the top of my head, only drawings by the author(?); no colour plates. For the rest text.

Wienand
Just saw some images recently of the Seven Years war Uniform guides so I've got an idea now.

Re: The Army of James II (Helion)

hi, Sapherson's works are booklets that are useful as reference when busy with the regiments themselves -- though he provides useful introductory overviews, it is again not comparable to Childs. But maybe more comparable to Osprey. kind regards, Wienand Any visual aides such as contempory illustrat...

Well I suppose he's one of the lucky few who had a happy ending. Compared to those and french and Danish-Norwegians in Imperial Service.

Re: Coinkydink

Seems his story is just like that of those unfortunate French grenadiers who got pressed into service in both Saxon and Swedish armies.

Re: The Low Countries (What was the big fuss all about?)

Add in dynastic disputes, inherited lands, access to the North Sea, the riches of the the Low Countries commercial trade and stock markets, English interest, noisy neighbours, fertile soil and marijuana cafes and the picture is obvious I'd say.. I suppose the more you have, the more other people wa...

Re: The Army of James II (Helion)

The simple answer is Yes, the background detail is still valid in regard to equipment, tactics and regimental makeup etc, there is unfortunately very little available information of the state of the English establishment from the abdication of James II until the army was sent to Ireland under Willi...

Re: The Army of James II (Helion)

With respect to the Army after James abandoned the throne - this doesn't, I'm afraid form any real part of the book and is simply mentioned in the blurb but here are some thoughts (and quite open to debate on this one). :) ) Could this book still be of use in understanding the general practices of ...
