Re: First Look at Wargames Factory WSS Cavalry

Nicely done. My big beef with these is the "pop-up" heads. I saw one person who cut the necks down so they didn't have this look, but I don't know how much work is involved in that.

Re: Uniform Help Needed From Someone With Access To Hall

Hi,

the TMP poster was mistaken. According to Hall uniforms for this unit are unknown. I think the TMP poster gave you the notes for the other unit on the same plate....

Re: Robert Hall plates for the period

"The actual colour is dark blue, not green (and before anyone points it out I know that Green fades to blue but not to a dark blue)"

Green does sometimes fade to dark blue.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think I'm that interested. I'm just describing how it looks based on what's been posted.

Re: Blenheim OOB

I appreciate your not wanting to go into it any further in public. I'm not that interested in getting any more details. I've been around here a few years though not as long as you and I've seen some of those debates. They seem to have been fine to me but maybe there are things I'm not aware of. Just...

Re: Blenheim OOB

I'd like to understand this a little better: "So please, from today on avoid reference to Mr Stanford and his work on this board or the post will be deleted by me as a matter of protocol and without exception" Iain was upset that someone copied stuff from his book (which is under copyright) and put ...

Re: 28mm unit sizes for WSS

I think any packages you do with a discount will be welcomed. When I buy from Front Rank I figure out what I need, what I can get in a battalion pack, and what is left to buy. The selection isn't perfect for what I want to buy, but it's fine, and I certainly appreciate the discount. Do you know alre...

Re: Robert Hall plates for the period

The example of citing Grant is on the description of Regiment Gondrin in his book on French infantry. He has two drawings. The first is for a musketeer and he reels off all the good sources: Mercure Galant, Corfey, and "Etat des troupes de France 1702". The second drawing is for the tambour and it s...

Re: Robert Hall plates for the period

One of the reasons I prefer Hall is that he quotes his sources which is worth a lot. When he quotes Grant as the only source, I'm guessing we're dealing with gamer history. I haven't found many things in Hall I wonder about, although I'd like to know what to do about Greder Suisse. In his plate he d...

Re: Swiss in Dutch Pay and Ansbach

I'm just planning to use the WSS figures for the Swiss in Dutch service. The plates seem to depict them as the Dutch.

Belaubre doesn't provide any info on the flags of Rechteren.

Nice description.

Were these guys all in red at this point in time? Copplestone makes figures that might be nice.

Re: French 1690 regiment grey coat/blue lining

Hall is writing about the WSS some years later, but some of the uniform info applies late in the 1690s. He has no plate for Souastre but says gray with blue cuffs. For Chatelet he has a plate and they are indeed gray with blue cuffs. White lace on the tricorn. Saddle cloth and pistol holders are blu...
