Strength of French Cavalry in the WSS

Gentlemen, I found an interesting document in the Nafziger collection. This collection has a large number of OOB's for the WSS, although the index system is a pain. Most of these have no details of unit strengths but I found one that details the French Cavalry under Vaudemont, 1703. I have summarise...

Re: French Infantry Regiment 'Plessis-Praslin'

Phil,
I'll have a look and see what I can find but a lot of these liveries are not known. The Royal livery seem to be used by regiments that were connected to a region rather than named after their colonel. Then of course there are the royal regiments who used it too.

Re: Introductory Reading for WSS

I agree with Churchill, the Ramillies book in particular is a good read but the Oudenarde and Malplaquet books are worth reading too. Although they are mainly focused on Marlborough, I've enjoyed reading the books by James Falkner and you can often get them second hand. For uniform info the best int...

Re: Galloper guns

I believe the battalion guns were served by men from the infantry regiment they were part of with assistance from a professional gunner.

I thought there were galloper guns doing this period but don't know for sure,
best wishes,
Simon

Re: Front rank and elite or foundry?

Phil,
Have had a look at the Calpe range of Napoleonics? They do a very nice range of Prussians, French and Saxons. Should fit in well with the Front Rank figures as they're big figures,

Re: Anglo-Dutch Cavalry Brigades

If your interested in the WSS period, I'll have a look at the OOB's for the Dutch guard units, I seem to recall that they were brigades with other Dutch cavalry regiments. Whilst it is true that most regiments in this period were known by their colonels name, this wasn't always the case and certainl...

Re: Spanish Bourbon Infantry Uniforms at Almanza

Arthur,
It will be interesting to see if anyone comes up with specific information but I suspect we don't really know which uniform they were wearing and the choice will be yours. The old uniforms are very colourful though!
Best wishes,
Simon

Re: cross over period for headwear in French Guards

Arthur,
Some superb images there, slightly off top but it made me think that a few camp follows would make a nice vignette, maybe an idea for a future pack from Warfare? :)

I believe the regiment Navarre also went into battle after Blenheim with just the flagpole and no colours rather than have them replaced

Re: Basic command structure of WSS unit

Hi Nick,
I would agree with Ben, two officers, two ensigns, one sergeant and one drummer.

The idea of including two grenadiers is a good one too but then won't it mean you would have to offer lots of different command sets to match the pose of the ordinary infantryman?
Best wishes,

Re: The cost of wargames figures

I can't see the value of the Aussie dollar coming down any time soon. They are rich in natural resources that the world is running out of, plus I don't think they were particularly affected by the banking crisis that triggered the recession. It must be a nightmare running an international business a...

Re: British and French Grenadiers During WSS,Lace yes or no

Most French grenadiers didn't have lace on the coat. Unfortunately most figure manufacturers based their grenadier on one from a regiment that had lace on the coat,

Re: british infantry standards battle of malpplaquet 1709

There are a surprising number of regiments that we have no flag details from this period for. Maybe it's because not many got taken in battle :)

The warflag site has a number of British flags including some generic types that might be useful.

Thickness of bases for scenery

I'm planning on making some scenery like fields, orchards and villages soon and was wondering what thickness of material for the bases would be best? Planning to use MDF,
Many thanks,
Simon
