Re: A doubt about the English Dragoons

Hi As far as I'm aware the British government down graded there Horse to Dragoons in name only as a way of paying the men less. I could enter into a political tirade here but will bite my tongue Hi, Dilly, which seems to me that it is what I have found written in the two books mentioned: they were ...

Re: A doubt about the English Dragons

Hi Sergio, My five cents... Heavy Dragoons or Light Dragoons are defined by the type of equipment they use, i.e., the Saber/Broadsword or the use of Carbine/Muskets and even by the type of Boots they wear. But it tells almost nothing about their ability to fight on foot. Most types of Light ...

A doubt about the English Dragons

In the texts that I could see, I read that the British Cavalry of the Napoleonic era (not considering the Guard) was formed by Dragoons, Hussars and Light Dragoons. The Dragons are classified as Heavy Cavalry, while Hussars and Light Dragoons are referred to as Light Cavalry. The question is: the Dr...

Re: A question about Command flag for Napoleonic wars

AFAIK there have been no commandflags for the French Brigade, Division or Corps Commands. Eagles and other Standards have been given to Line Infantry and Cavalry Regiments but not to the Artillery as those Regiments of Foot or Horse Artillery never fought as a unit but in single Batteries of differ...

A question about Command flag for Napoleonic wars

Someone, please, would be able to tell me if the Commands of Division and Brigade had their own flag? And in the case of the French, the Commands of the Army Corps? For example, the Field Artillery of the Imperial Guard had its own flag? And the Dutch-Belgian Army at Waterloo, or the English Army of...

Which miniatures for the period 1733 - 1748 ?

Hello, someone could advise me as to which miniatures are most suitable to represent the armies of the following wars: - War of the Polish Succession - 1733 - 1738 - War of the Austrian Succession - 1740 - 1748 Are better those of the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714), or those of the Seven ...

Re: Napoleonic 95th Rifles (Perry 28mm)

He Janner, Burkhard "14th Brooklyn", I thank both of you for your contributions in the discussion. Obviously, on the uniforms of that era , and even more on those of previous eras , the informations are often contradictory , which makes it a little "difficult life" for us modellers - wargamers . Eve...

Re: Napoleonic 95th Rifles (Perry 28mm)

I seem to remember reading somewhere, that they wore green trousers during the 100 days. But I can not remember where. I thought it was Franklin, but he only has info regarding the officers pantaloons. So I am not sure, might have been Adkins book. Bottom line is, I painted them green, with the exc...

And to further confuse the ideas in this photo of Reenactors, one has gray trousers, while others have green!

Re: A question about the Hussars uniform

Hi Sergio, IMHO it is so that Officers show their rank by having treads and lace in a more exquisite style than common troopers. So while the gunner or Hussar has white or yellow treads and laces the Officer has the same style but Silver or Gold treads and laces. In terms of Hussars this goes more ...

Re: Jacobite units??

And then we, Piedmonteses, we feel us "Celts", still today, even though for the truth, our Celtic ancestors were been a bit 'mixed": first with the Ligurians and the Romans, then with Swedes (Goths and Longbards), and finally with the Germans (Francs). But that's okay, not, we are "Europeans"! :mrgr...

Re: Jacobite units??

no probs Ray. So far I have painted: [omissis] Jacobites 1 French Foot unit - currently flagged as Piemont but I will change the command stand and use it for Ireland (maybe even as Huguenots if I drop the pikes) [....] Hello, Piedmonteses and Scots together? Strong! :D Yes, since I am a piedmontese...
