1660-1721: The Soldiers Mentality

1660-1721: The Soldiers Mentality :?: When I think of the British army of the Napoleonic Period I remember Wellington's quote "Scum of the Earth". I'm sure that all of them were not like that; some joined for adventure others not to starve. But what about the English, Scots, Irish, etc soldiers of W...

These paintings where from the period and showed British troops with pikes at Blenheim. Also I believe from someone's memories from the period talked about the review held in Lon...

seamus,

Yes perhaps the army is top heavy but "his grace the Duke" wants a good covering force to screen the seige.

I agree about the Germans. :)

A few month's ago on Front Ranks comments space I wrote asking for one or two pikeman figures. I have heard through other forums that Front Rank are not really interested going that way  but it would be nice.  any way of making Dixon pikemen look bigger to match Front Rank figures...

French Horse Grenadiers WSS

Was looking at Front Ranks lovely French Horse Grenadiers in their War of Spanish Succession collection. Did these Horse Grenadiers form their own regiment or did each line regiment have their own company of Horse Grenadiers? Were they similier to Englands Life Guards that also had their own troops ...

Cavalry Sqn's frontage and ranks

Hello forum. For the LoA/WSS period when cavalry sqn's charged were they in one rank or two? For a regiment did the sqn's charged all in one line or one after another? For frontages was a sqn frontage one third of a foot battalion. I realize that different nation's battalions fought in different num...

Have not seen any 28mm roket troops but Front Line have a new 54mm British rocket troop set on the market. Pictures avaliable on their web site. Lots of nice 54mm figs on the market King and Country Front Line and new Wbritians. Could be costly though. Still what glory could be found on the tabletop...

ULB Rev 5 (ideas)

Barry, First, thanks for resending me the ULB Rules. Reference ULB Rev 5, have you considered adding siege rules or events. I believe that siege warfare was was the main feature of the LoA and WSS. How about events on both sides; 1. defenders make a sortie on the attackers trench lines. 2. attackers...

GMT - Under the Lily Banners? What's up with that!

Just recieved the Vol XXIX/V of the Arquebusier (Pike and Shot Society). In the contents was a review of 'Under the Lily Banners', so thinking it was Barry's rules I turned to them. Instead it is a review by a Bill Gray on a new GMT game called 'Under the Lily Banners' in the Thirty Years War period...

Thanks gentlemen for responding. I will drop the English Horse Guards from the order of battle but I may included the Oxford Blues. I like Barry's pictures of that regiment for the earlier period. barry for the WSS, even though the Blues did not serve in Flanders did they still have blue coats or di...
