Re: Here come the Russians

Some better quality photos; Russian Infantry command, the hands have to be drilled through, so the weapons are just propped up. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g303/clibinarium/2010-01-01%2000.00.00-5_zpsbpmq9z1y.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g303/clibinarium/2010-01-01%2000.00.00-6_zpspgy...

Re: GNW Russian range.

General question; sometimes I see Russian foot depicted with moustaches, sometimes without. Anyone know anything about regulations on facial hair? Currently I am tending towards mostly moustachioed, but some clean shaven. (Moustaches for grenadiers though).

Re: GNW Russian range.

On the workbench right now are the first three packs of Russian infantry, a pack of dismounted French dragoon command, and a bunch of dolls for western mounted dragoons, plus the first of the Russian and Swedish cavalry. The Swedish cavalry trooper that's available was originally just a test piece, ...

Re: GNW Russian range.

I had a couple of worrying days there, where it looked like the Post office had lost the box, but I've heard from Pendraken that they've got it. Phew.

Re: GNW Russian range.

Sorry Maciek, i haven't looked at this thread quite a while as I've been sidetracked from the Russians by having to do some work on the LoA dragoons, but I am back working on the infantry now, and will have some previews of the first couple of packs soon.

Re: GNW Russian range.

Thanks guys, I have a copy of Letin and Leonoff, it does have some great artwork in it. The frustrating thing though is that its hard to puzzle out what the captions say, not being able to read Russian. I can put it into google translate, but I find the cyrillic typing slow going, and half the time ...

Re: GNW Russian range.

Dolls are well advanced by now, but finishing off the pikemen I seen quite a lot of images of Russian pikemen with pistols and belly boxes, which I am inclined to add. Anybody have particular views on this?

Re: GNW Russian range.

FWIW, here are some 28mm resin Russians from a Russian manufacturer. They seem to follow the picture that you posted pretty closely. http://warsoflouisxiv.blogspot.com/2014/12/great-northern-war-russians-in-28mm.html Yes I had those figures in mind too. In reference to the drawing one puzzling thin...

Re: GNW Russian range.

I should have put up a "base" image in my first post. I'm fairly certain that this the appearance of the basic Russian musketeer. Its taken from a Russian book (or very possibly Ukrainian), so I can't tell exactly what the illustrations represent, but can guess. The striking elements here are the si...

GNW Russian range.

I've been working on the dollies for the forthcoming GNW Russians. Going back to the preview of the test sculpts for the range, we got a bit of a negative reaction on the Russians in terms of accuracy. Having looked into it further it seems that the classic Viskovatov view (and hence the two Ospreys...

Re: Good Battle of the Boyne book on Amazon

When you see covers like that on Amazon, together with the book's age its likely that its a book without copyright restrictions that the seller has just printed out (or will print out on demand). So a bit of searching on the web will often turn up an online copy at project Gutenberg or similar. In t...

Re: Gardes Francaises and Gardes Suisse info for 1690s

Long story short there's good illustrations of the Francaises from a 1696 drill book by Giffart; http://warsoflouisxiv.blogspot.co.uk/2008/07/french-infantry-c1696.html In it can be seen pikemen in breast and backplate, but not helmets or tassets. Grenadiers are very similar to the musketeers, but c...
