Bonnie Dundee...

Does anyone have any info on what standard Dundee would have flown?

I know he raised the Royal Standard in 1689, but I'm looking for a personal standard for my model of him.

Re: Royal Scots - grenadiers?

tbh I'll be using a darker, more crimson, colour for my rank and file, with only the ensigns and other officers getting scarlet. Remember in those days they were using vegetable dyes which are much more subdued than the chemical dyes we are used to now. In addition, weather and wear and tear would r...

Re: Royal Scots - grenadiers?

Beautiful looking regiment Ray, just like the rest of your postings... tbh, fur cap will be the least of my 'errors', after all I'll have them fighting on the side of the Stuarts! Currently undercoating my first regiment of Warfare Miniatures which will be finished as Cannon's, post Killiecr...

Re: Royal Scots - grenadiers?

Thanks Tim, I've decided to go with fur caps for my unit, just 'cos I like them!

Royal Scots - grenadiers?

Did the Royal Scots (Orkney's) have a grenadier company at the time they remained loyal to James and mutinied in 1688?

If so, what headgear would they have worn?

Many thanks.

Re: Grey Dragoons...

Thanks Ray, I had seen your models on a different thread and admired them. Very nice indeed. I'll be using mine as Jacobite (assuming they never defected to the Usurper) in 1689 - 91 period. You seem to be correct with the fur hats as one source (Charles Grant and Michael Youens, Royal Scots Greys, ...

Re: Grey Dragoons...

Good point, I'd got it into my head for some reason that the 'Royal' designation occurred later.

OK, grey coats, blue facings and I've created my guidon for them...

Will be ordering them (along with my Royal Scots) from Barry once he returns from his travels.

Re: Grey Dragoons...

Thanks Rebel, much appreciated. Earl of Dunmore in 'stone grey' it will be as I'll be modelling them as remaining loyal to James VII.

Still none the wiser re facings though...

Grey Dragoons...

"In 1681, by Royal Warrant, these three troops were combined, with the addition of three further troops, into what would be named the Royal Regiment of Scots Dragoons.[4] Lieutenant-General Thomas Dalziel would be the regiment's first colonel. In its original configuration, the Scots Greys were con...

Flagpoles...

Anyone got any idea of what colour a unit's flagpoles should be for Jacobite Irish / Scots?
