Re: GNW Russian range.

Clib,

You might want to consider Russian pikemen kneeling with pikes forward and pistols drawn for use in the firing. The 1708 regulations called for every other man in the front line to have a pike. I've seen a few pictures that depict them as kneeling with the rank behind them able to fire.

Re: 1612 uniforms

Just looked around the web and the consensus seems to be that most, if not all, French infantry wore the pre-Bardin uniform in Russia. Some suggest that many units did not wear the Bardin uniform even in 1813.

Re: GNW Russian range.

Here is a great new article on the "Western" Russian uniforms. It addresses many of your questions and points out Viskovatov's errors.

Re: The Cuirass and Swedish Cavalry

A 1704 muster role from the Roslag Company of the Livregement shows 48 of 125 cuirasses as lost. The link is here: http://www.rosocken.se/Documents/GMR_LRTH4_1704.aspx

Re: Opponents for the Swedes

I used the Warfare LOA figures for the Saxons, as they are said to have floppy hats up to about 1706. Gunter has posted many pictures of his massive Saxon army of Warfare figures on this forum. Use the Warfare cuirassiers for the Saxon cavalry. If you want your Saxons in tricornes, the new Warfare R...

Re: Any more Swedish packs coming soon?

From Clib in in response to a similar inquiry in late June: "On the workbench right now are the first three packs of Russian infantry, a pack of dismounted French dragoon command, and a bunch of dolls for western mounted dragoons, plus the first of the Russian and Swedish cavalry. The Swedish cavalr...

Articles on GNW in "Chakoten"

"Chakoten" is a magazine published by Dansk Militaerhistorisk Selskab There is a great 2012 issue with several articles on the GNW, including a lengthy one on the Battle of Gadebusch. While it is in Danish, there are numerous color uniform plates, maps and other pictures. It can be downloaded from h...

Re: Polish infantry of the GNW

The Polish Foot Guards (who may or may not have been Polish) were dressed in Western clothing, like the rest of the Saxon army, and for all intents an purposes were part of the Saxon infantry. I don't know if any other Polish infantry fought in the field. At Klizsow, Warsaw, and Kalisch, it looks li...
