Re: The Bavarian Army During the Thirty Years War, 1618-1648

Many thanks for the update - definitely one for next month. I do find the shift in release dates frustrating but the books are normally worth the wait. Looking at both the 'Century of the Soldier' and the 'Reason to Revolution' series, there are so many books of interest. Need to sell a kidney to af...

The Army of James II (Helion)

This one snuck in under the radar. I normally keep an eye on this series as there are some great titles coming but didn't notice it. I've just found a very interesting source on the 'Red Sash Games' site which might be of interest :

Scroll down to 'Army of Roussillon' under War of the Grand Alliance.

Re: Papal and Italian States 1660 to 1721

Some really interesting links listed here. I've managed to track down one or two (Scribd is useful here). Reconstructing these armies is a fascinating task (made even more so when you can't speak Italian !). Translation sites are helpful but they sometimes come up with some colourful suggestions... ...

Re: Papal and Italian States 1660 to 1721

I've spent quite a bit of time looking into the armies of the Italian States (as part of a project looking at regimental lineage). Anyway, I've found a huge amount of information available about one of the more important States (Savoy/Piedmont) but relatively little about the remainder. A few source...

Re: Grand Alliance Game

One quick question - I wonder the red coated chaps in picture 17 are (carrying the red flag with large sun device) ?

This really is a stunning collection that has clearly taken years to complete.

Re: Battles of the Franco-Dutch war

I've had a look on the excellent 'AD 1672' site and come across a page which might give you some pointers :

Hope this helps,

Useful Sources

I've recently come across some a couple of sources that might be of interest. Firstly, the following link downloads "FORGING A COALITION ARMY: WILLIAM III, THE GRAND ALLIANCE, AND THE CONFEDERATE ARMY IN THE SPANISH NETHERLANDS, 1688-1697", a Dissertation by John Stapleton, Ohio State University (20...

If you are interested, I also have a copy of the earlier booklet (Danish Uniforms, Colours & Standards, 1675-79), which also had input from Dan Schorr.

Re: Incendiary article?

I assume this is about the 'Camaret' article which mentions the strong possibility that Marlborough committed treason by giving advance notice of an English descent on the French coast. If not, my apologies ! I'd never heard of this affair before so thought the article was really interesting, partic...
