Re: battery of guns and howitzers

Hi, in your opinion, a volley fired by rifles of an Infantry Battalion or carbins of a Cavalry Regiment against a battery, in addition to killing the gunners, could also damage some of the pieces? That is, can we assume that the balls fired from rifles / carbines finished on the cannon and / or howi...

Re: battery of guns and howitzers

Hi, Ronan,
many thanks for the reference material that you have reported me.
It is very useful.
I will have to spend quite a lot 'of time to translate it and study it.
You were really kind.
Best regards

battery of guns and howitzers

The batteries of the napoleonic period were formed by a number of guns and a number of howitzers, in the ratio from 2: 1 to 4: 1 depending by the army. The questions now I asked myself are theese: 1. When a battery was firing, it fire simultaneously with the guns and with the howitzers? Or did they ...

Re: A question regarding the length of the flagpoles.

Hi Sergio, Yes, take a look at Greystreak's Russians as they provide a good "middle ground" between historically accurate length and sufficient length to show off a unit's flags without looking like Thirty Years' War pikemen. Most infantry flagstaffs were around 8-10 feet (2.5-3.0 metres) from top ...

Re: To play the 100 Days Campaign

Many thanks, Ronan. You're really kind. Your information is very useful. Your suggestion to speculate that a square map has the side corresponding to 10 km greatly simplifies our lives. In fact we are trying to use a system as simple as possible, obviously to allow a certain adherence to the reality...

To play the 100 Days Campaign

Hi, for our fantasy Campaigns, we use the excellent regulation of Nick Lund "Fantasy Warriors Campaigns". We would like to try to use it also for the historical battles (WSS and Napoleonic). The regulation provides a map divided into squares. We would like to try to draw one map on a A3 sheet (or tw...

Re: A question regarding the length of the flagpoles.

Greystreak wrote:Hi Sergio. For 28mm figures I use flag poles of 60mm length for infantry, and 50mm for cavalry. Length does not include the 'finial' (ornament) on top of the poles. Use what seems to look best for your figures. :D
Many thanks for your answer.

A question regarding the length of the flagpoles.

Please, could you tell me how long they are to do the flagpoles for Napoleonic 28 mm miniatuires (i.e. Front Rank)?
Both for the Infantry and the Cavalry.
I think those of Infantry should be a little longer than those of Cavalry.

How much long do you them?
thank you very much.

Re: A doubt about the English Dragons

Hi Ronan, Many thanks for the additional clarification. Our wargame is based on Units that represent Infantry Battalions or Cavalry Regiments, so there it is not a skirmish game. For this reason, I think that we can very well avoid complicate our lives, eliminating the Dragons on foot for the Napole...

Re: A doubt about the English Dragons

A swift look took me to Perry https://www.perry-miniatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_62&products_id=2000&osCsid=chrbhvv3nslocn72r9u01ouvs1 and Wargames Foundry seems to have had once dismounted Dragoons but they are currently not available. Many thanks for the reporting. I checked the si...

Re: A doubt about the English Dragons

Many thanks Günter, for clarifications about the Saxons Dragoons. When I refer to "mounted infantry", from what I've read about the Dragoons, it is meant "Light Infantry" in skirmish operating mode, not the Infantry advancing in line formation. The question I am trying to clarify, with regard to the...

Re: A doubt about the English Dragons

Hi, Ronan,

for example, with regard to the army of Wellington at Waterloo, the Dutch and Belgian Light Dragoons as were they operating? As Mounted Infantry like the French, or as English ones (such as Light Cavalry only) ?

Re: A doubt about the English Dragons

Hi, Ronan, many thanks for your intervention, which I think is quite competent. From what you wrote I think we can draw the conclusion that only the French and their allies would take the Dragons in the traditional role of mounted infantry, while the other armies in the napoleonic era used them as H...

Re: A doubt about the English Dragons

The Dragoon Guards should not be forgotten, though I am led to believe that only one regiment was involved in the Hundred Days. These were regiments of horse (seven I believe) converted to dragoons for reasons of economy around 1751 but given the fancy name to lessen the blow to their pride. All wo...
