Pike use during ssw

Hi I agree with Barrys previous point on hats, also having had one they do go rather floppy, but also having some Venexia 15mm figures, they are rather large compared to other 15mm manufacturers (Dixons, Essex, Mnifigs, Roundway) except Lancashire Games (who's new WSS range is quite good and they al...

Pike use during ssw

Hi Venexia figures are for the earlier period up to 1697, specifically War of League of Augsburg. They intend to do WSS figures in the future, but when they have not specified. Pikes (if used) were only used in the WSS up to 1706, and then probably only by the "British" ,Dutch, and some minor German...

Musketeers of louis XIV

If you have the Funcken Lace War's book 1 they are in there, or buy the Dan Schorr CD on French Cavalry of Louis XIV, there are full colour plates of both companies, have trooper, officier and drummer uniforms, as well as the two types of flags they carried for each company. Can get this from Baccus...

Musketeers of M du R

Hi

Did the Musketeers of the M du Roi have a kettle drummer or just side drummers during WSS, and did they have trumpeters?

If they did OK, if not I need another figure.

Thanks for any help.

Ad For the WSS (do not know about LOA), there are no hard and fast rules as to how Grenadiers were deployed. Chandler suggests that they were on either flank, but having them on the right is equally plausable. They did however tend to stay with their parent units if in the pay of the Maratime Powers...

Platoon Fire in WSS

Hi Barry I think you are probably right, if it was so revolutionary why did'nt the French adopt it quicker than they did. I have seen discussions elsewhere on this, and from that I conclude that we are not actually sure what platoon or volley fire actually was, how it was executed, and what the diff...

Platoon Fire in WSS

Hi Does any one know if German states such as Hesse Kessel, Hanover (united or seperate), and Prussia used Platoon firing during the WSS. It is believed that the Prussians did, and in the Pat Condary booklet that the Hanoverians adopted it in 1694. I do not know about the Hessians. It would make sen...

Dutch Curiasseurs during WSS

Hi Mats Interesting about the Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf Dragoon unit Baudisson, as it is in the OOB's of Ramallies I have, including the one with Bauditz and Bonnart. Perhaps they had commanders with the same name, (at Blenheim there were 3 commanders called Rantzou... very confusing). Ah well.... ...

Dutch Curiasseurs during WSS

Hi Mats The Danish Dragroon units are called Bauditz & Bonnart and are taken from a Ramillies OOB. There is no mention of the Wuttemburg Oels unit in this list, even though in most other Ramillies OOB's I have seen Wuttemburg Oels unit is mentioned as being the only Danish Dragroon unit present. Tha...

Dutch Curiasseurs during WSS

Hi Mats Thanks for the info, most useful. Re Wuttemburg Oels, they were a very large dragoon unit, and from the OOB's I have seen they often operated as two units. In certain unit lists there are Danish Dragoon units mentioned (by commandes name) which do not appear in other lists, but what is inter...

Thanks Mats Useful to know you can speak German, and that you have the CD. I have several, mostly the Robert Hall ones, of which I find the one on the Prussian Army to be the best. The artwork in all of the Hall CD's is fantastic, although some of the info relates to periods before or after the WSS....

Any online sources for info on WSS Southern Theatres ???

Try Cavalier books website and get the Partizan Press WSS book 2, it mainly deals with those theatures, has battles, uniforms, colour plates, unit sizes etc. Some of the Italian Spanish and Portugese have colourful uniforms (purples and yellows). Not an on line source but can get the book sent to yo...

Thanks Mats

Looks like I might have to get the Dan Schoor CD or booklet he has on the Dutch. How good is your German, as they have not done an updated english version yet (but I have been told that one is in the pipeline).

Thanks

basing question for 15m ULB

Hi I agree with Wim, his suggested base sizes are the same as the ones I use for my 15mm WSS figures, and they just about fit nicely. I use mainly Dixons, Roundway and Essex, and they tend to be more like 18mm than 15. In the past I used basing sizes similar to Barry's suggestion for my 15mm Napelon...
