"Century of the Soldier" - New Series

Hi chaps, I recently bought a copy of "Marlborough's Other Army" by Nick Dorrell and found that it is part of a new series covering 1618 to 1721 ("Century of the Soldier"). Link below : http://www.helion.co.uk/published-by-helion/century-of-the-soldier/books-in-series.html Although the first few boo...

Re: Tactica Hamburg 2016 - some Impressions

Thank you Gunter, These games really offer some of the best in the hobby. I absolutely love the Great Northern War game - superb figures and scenery that will have taken real dedication to put together. Particularly like the shot of the Swedish Trumpeter (?) in reverse colours - a wonderful figure. ...

Re: Russian standards...

There is some detail on this in the Osprey Men-at-Arms # 260 "Peter the Great's Army (Infantry)" by Angus Konstam. This confirms that each Regiment was issued with 1 x Regimental Colour plus 1 x Colour per Company. The poles were black with a brass finial. The finial was decorated by two gold tassel...

...also, if it helps, I have the Robert Hall CD and am very happy to provide details on a specific Regiment.

Cheers,

Re: Hesse-Kassel Cavalry Flag and uniform help

Use the link given. Click on 'Parent Directory' Then click on 'Blenheim.htm' You will then have access to the entire Order of Battle for both armies and can find the Hesse-Kassel Regiments. This site doesn't have uniforms and flags for all Hesse-Kassel Regiments but there are enough to be getting on...

Re: Bases and painting

Some really useful stuff here, thank you.

I must admit that I now use precut mdf bases for most figures - one of the benefits is that they already have a nice dark edge that sets the figures off perfectly - no need to paint round the edges.

Re: My Plans for 2016, Whats Yours

My projects for 2016 include : a. Continuing to build two 10mm Seven Years War armies for the Western Theatre. These will mainly be Prussian and French respectively but each will also include some colouful allies. I'm a good way through the Prussian army (only 10 Battalions to go !). Some of the Pru...

History of the Scots Brigade in Dutch Service

Chaps, In case anyone has an interest, I have just found a three volume gem on Archive.org dealing with the history of the Scots Brigade in Dutch Service between 1572 & 1782. Links below. Vol I https://archive.org/stream/papersillustrati01ferg#page/n5/mode/2up Vol II https://archive.org/stream/paper...

Re: Friesland and Friesham

These are beautifully painted. A lot of work - well done.

The only suggestion I would make is perhaps to paint up the base edges as these draw attention away from your superb painting.

Looking forward to seeing more of your figures.

Re: Cavalry Regiment Saint-Paul ?

Graf Bretlach, Never too late ! Many thanks for your post. It very much sounds as though the reference is to the Hanoverian Infantry Regiment you mention. Richard has asked me to pass on his thanks to the Forum. I'm actually hoping he'll join as I'm sure he would find this a great source of wisdom. ...

Gunter / Dan,

Very many thanks for your replies. Looks as though this reference is likely to be an issue with the source material. I'll pass this on to Richard.

Thanks again,

Re: Cavalry Regiment Saint-Paul ?

Thank you for the replies. This is very much appreciated. I must admit that I was aware of the St-Pol(Paul) Regiment. This is the Infantry Regiment Louis de St Paul des Estangs hired by the Dutch between 1694-97 and again between 1701-13. I did indeed wonder whether there had been a mix-up here and ...

Cavalry Regiment Saint-Paul ?

Many of you will be familiar with the excellent Kronoskaf 'Seven Years War' site. As you may know, the same team have set up a similar site covering the War of Spanish Succession. I am trying to help Richard Couture, one of the site contributors, to expand information on Dutch cavalry of the period ...
