Re: 17th Century Naval Games

I tried out Galleys and Galleons last week. Seems quite a neat set of rules. Not too complex, minimal book-keeping and with some subtleties to make it a tactical challenge. Eminently tweakable as well, so that I can include the elements that I think embody the period. https://myalbum.com/photo/JiTav...

Re: From Solebay to the Texel

1/450th Scale? Really? These are rather large than, yes? Not if I stick with sloops, fluyts and frigates.... like that's going to happen!! They are in the 60-100mm long. including bowsprit so quite a neat size and readily distinguishable from each other. I also haven't been able to stop mysel...

From Solebay to the Texel

We definitely live in a time of riches when it comes to the reference material being published about military matters of the later 17th Century. Visiting Cavalier in Tonbridge this weekend the Helion stall was there to show off the recent tomes published in their "Century of the Soldier, 1618-1721" ...

Re: 17th Century Naval Games

Yes thanks. Looking at them they are more for larger scale games but I will give them a go for my 5th Rates and smaller games. I also have Galleys and Galleons by Ganesha Games that look interesting and maybe aimed more at small actions with a few ships rather than fleets.

A few Swedes go a long way! Think of it this way: those hundreds of Russian units you will need to paint now will be perfect opposition / cannon fodder for the Ottomans!

17th Century Naval Games

Inspired by Barry's current naval project I have started to put together some ship models that will allow me to tinker with this period. https://thumbs-eu-west-1.myalbum.io/photo/540/5e2cf2a5-8357-4acf-bc03-564f698361a2.jpg Not sure what rules to try for this sort of period and level of game. Any su...

Sounds very much like a battle of the period, including some units inexplicably sitting doing nothing...

1667 Defences on the Thames

Tilbury fort was originally a 16th Century defence for the Thames but modified over the years to meet new challenges.

Re: War of 3 Kings rules questions

We tend to do the morale checks for melee loss and any rout / retire moves straight away so that we don't for get them when the compulsory moves comes around. (Only puts things out of order when there are multiple close combats going on.) AFAIK the routers do not get a "second" rout in the compulsor...
