Re: Introductory Reading for WSS

I'd recommend the Wars of Louis XIV by John Lynn. Obviously covers much more than the WSS but it really puts that war into perspective and the discussion of the WSS is good, and he does cover a bit about what was going on in all the theaters of the war.

Re: Dopff's Dragoons

Robert Hall's plate shows them in red with white facings. I would go with that, and actually I did when I painted them.

Re: Dark Blue Uniforms

I didn't paint any of the figures in the book. I will offer a suggestion about blue paint though. I have the Andrea blue set and it's the best paint I've ever used without exception. You can do a really dark blue or bring your blue up to a fairly nice medium blue that's still on the darker side. Gre...

Re: Books/internet links Duch Forces 1660-1721 uniforms and

Robert Hall is working on a uniform book for the Dutch in the WSS. I hear the first volume will be out around the end of this year. Has anyone heard anything more on this? Yes, cav volume will be first, delayed by about three months to incorporate comments from Olaf van Nimwegen, so end of Q1 2013 ...

Re: flags of Royal Italien

Thanks! I'll go with the Beek version then. Hard to sort out though. Du Vivier is from 1715. Beek is from flags captured during the wars, so earlier.

flags of Royal Italien

According to Robert Hall neither the colonel's nor ordonnance colours had fleur-de-lys on the crosses. He cites Du Vivier.

According to Kronoskaf they did, 12 per branch and claim it never changed from 1671. No specific source cited.

Anyone have any further info on them?

Amsterdam

I'm going to be in Amsterdam in October for work. I'll have a free afternoon or two. What things are to be seen for the military history buff especially having to do with the WSS?

Re: Spanish Infantry Colours During War of Spanish Successio

great links Gunter, thanks for posting them. Maverick flags do a number of Spanish flags for unidentified regiments so my approach is to use them with the uniform info available. I'm really tempted to do one of the regiments with violet coats even though they didn't fight in Flanders which is where...
