I also prefer a hardcopy of a rule set. And I would be happy to subscribe should you select Option #4. That being said, a PDF version is also acceptible -- although I prefer a hard copy. One problem with a PDF version is that I believe that the standard page length of paper differs between the U.K. ...

Barry,

Could you please post a link (or at least directions) to the location of this photo? After all, it isn't like you don't have hundreds of photos posted for us to look through.

Barry, Just to be clear . . . unlike ULB troops with pikes, which would have three shot bases, with one base of pikes behind them, the GNW troops would be based differently. Swedes would only have two shot bases, with a base of pikes in the "front line" (instead of being behind three shot bases) . ....

Ian, You could do a lot worse than visiting Clarence Harrison's website. The link following will take you to a page where he not only has a link to his (free) rule set, "Victory Without Quarter", but also (just above it) a series of links to an article about "Creating a Wargames 101" with many excel...

Heck, if some accepts that eighteen models represents a battalion, they should be able to accept the odd unit with colored lace on their hats!
Clarence, I like your attitude (as well as your website and rules).

Ah, artistry . . . . . . Because so many of the Swedish GNW battalions looked so similar (not all of them, but many), I differentiated my brigades by color-coding the flagstaffs of the unit standards. It worked well, the players on the Swedish side kept track of their units easily and, when I asked ...

Hat Tape Question

Barry,

In the "League of Augsburg" section of your Gallery photos, you show Dutch Regiment 33 (Waldeck-Prymont) wearing red-orange hat tape.

Are there any other regiments in the period that used something other than white or yellow hat tape?

Barry, I'd like to be sure that I understand the way that the rules work, so I'd like to run through an example and make sure that everything is correct. Forces involved : Regiment of two Elite squadrons (6+6) of cuirassiers vs. one Drilled Battalion of foot (18 muskets, plus pikes). Situation : Reg...

LeCoqFou, Welcome, I'm glad that you took heed of my counsel and came here to get a copy of ULB. (I should note that Barry is working on version 5 -- which hopefully will be out relatively soon). Barry, I googled "Mick Yarrow" and came up with a link to "Kremlin Miniatures" in the UK. I then clicked...

For me, 10mm figures are a bit of a question mark. I have some of GW's WarMaster armies. They paint pretty quickly and look great . . . when I can see them. I'm nearing 60 (the old "greying of the hobby") and these little lads are just a bit too small for me to appreciate at wargaming distances. Als...

Thanks for the reply, Barry. Your answer was quite helpful.

Also, I know that you've developed/run many scenarios in this period. Will any be included in ULB 5? Or do you have any plans to make some available online?

Size of Battles for ULB ???

Barry, What is the FEWEST number of units per side would you feel would make a decent battle using "Under the Lily Banner" rules? What is the MOST number of units per side that you would feel comfortable using in a ULB battle? Approximately how many units per side would you consider OPTIMUM for a UL...

But, but . . . . . . But I want "ULB 5" NOW! . . . I want it under the tree for Christmas . . . (note: that's for this year -- not next year). Oh, yeah, I want World Peace too . . . but it looks like I won't get that anytime soon either . . . *sigh*. Well, a "Happy Christmas" to you anyway. -- Jeff
