Viktor, I've never played 1644, but I do have a copy of the rules. I dug them out and this is a quote from page 4 of the 1990 edition (probably the only one): "BASES -- All models should be based on square or rectangular pieces of stiff card, board, or other suitable material. Each base is equivalen...

Rob, I got a couple of replies (which I hopefully forwarded to you) about groups near your area. There is also a Convention coming up on March 4. Here is the link: http://www.proorcon.net/ Conventions are a great way to "sample" a lot of periods/rulesets. I strongly suggest attending. Wander around,...

Ed, My experience on the tabletop suggests that artillery is more effective at "channeling" your enemy to other areas than it is in causing a terrible amount of damage. I also suspect that much of its value in this and earlier periods is as a "terror" device. Again its morale impact is almost certai...

Rob, I found a webpage that lists about 27 game clubs in Michigan. Now I don't know how current all of the information is . . . or how close you are to them, or how many play historicals, but here is a link to them -- should give you some contacts http://home.adelphia.net/~adurston/NAGCL/NA3.html#MI...

Infantry Fire Questions for ULB ver 4

Barry, I'm not sure I understand some of the Modifiers in section 3.4 of "Under the Lilly Banners" (version 4). "+1 Target 2> ranks" -- Does this mean if the target is "Two or more ranks deep"? or does it mean "greater than two ranks deep"? Next, what does "- 2 If losses = or greater than 50% of a s...

Questions re: ULB section 1.4

Barry, I have a few questions regarding the "Important Note" in section 1.4 of "Under the Lilly Banners". This refers to alternate basing . . . and since I'm a fan of non-cookie-cutter units, I'm likely to want some 16 and 20-figure units on 2x2 bases. Fine, I understand that they will have 1d6 for ...

Rob, I posted a request on three other "group lists" for Detroit area gamers to contact me. Since these lists all have well over a thousand members each, there's a decent chance that someone will contact me. Send me your email and I'll forward any answers I get to you. My email is -- bluebear@uniser...

Greetings, Okay . . . I have a different philosophy regarding basing than most of those who've posted previously. This doesn't mean that they are wrong -- certainly many of their based troops look great. But, for myself, I don't want too much on my bases besides the figures and some simple flocking....

Rob, I think that you'll find that Historical Gaming is a very rich and satisfying hobby. If I was you, the first thing I'd do is call up or visit ALL of the game/hobby stores in your area. I'd check out bulletin boards in those shops AND talk to the staff. I would be very surprised if you didn't fi...

David, First, with the French, the major difference between WSS French and SYW French is the hairstyle -- which, in 15mm, is not all that significant to my way of thinking. I'd use them without any qualms (and, by the way, the Flags are unchanged). As for rule sets, while "Warfare in the Age of Reas...

Hi,

I'm not really familiar with these rules but, from other periods, one "easy" solution is to base most figures on multi-figure stands with a few ones and twos for use in "making change".

I do that with my Colonials a lot.

Barry, I should point out that, despite the way my GNW 25's are based, I much prefer the look of the ULB basing. Unfortunately all of my painted&based figures are Bloodaxe -- which are no longer available (and not really compatible with ANY other figures), so I'm stuck with what I've got -- even tho...

Robert,

I need to know a bit of everything about these campaigns. I know that there were campaigns in Spain and Italy -- but that is about all I do know.

So, yes to all areas. I need to know the basic facts and whatever details are available.

Any Online Sources for Info on WSS Southern Theatres ???

Anyone, I'm in a very remote area (small island off the coast of western Canada). Nearest town of any size (20,000) is an hour away -- so I need to use online resources. I'm interested in finding out more about the War of Spanish Succession in both Spain and Italy. If you know of any sources of info...

Ouch! I was working on a list of "edits" for you, Barry, when we hit a power outage. And, of course I hadn't saved my work . . . so I'll have to do it all over again . . . (sigh). I do have a question about resources for the southern theatres of the WSS -- but I'll start a separate thread about that...
