Re: GNW Livonian Adelsfana Warfare figures

Standard of the Adelsfanan i Livland – Field red; obverse had a silver griffin holding a silver sword with gold hilt; reverse had the Royal monogram within a wreath all in gold and silver. Fringe red silk mixed with gold thread.

Hope this is helpful.

Re: Interesting picture

A bit skeptical about Norwegian dragoons actually wearing the cuirass on campaign, but open to the possibility. Would like to know the sources used by the artist. Any idea who the buff-clad figure with cuirass is suppose to be? Could you be so kind and provide the title and author of the book, as we...

Re: How to make this unit

I have to correct my last post. I looked further into the matter of shoulder cords/lace, and discovered an article by Erik Aagaard, “Uniformene til den norsk hærs kavaleri. Del I-Dansketiden”, that appeared in Norsk Våpenhistorisk Selskap Årbok 2007. On page 62 Aagaard quotes a passage from Kgl Res ...

Re: How to make this unit

If you want to have shoulder cords then I am afraid you will have to fashion them out of green stuff or similar. However, I remain unconvinced that Norwegian dragoons had shoulder cords during the period. There is no evidence of such. The nearest reference is the Zimmer plates from 1730. The exact s...

Re: How to make this unit

For what it is worth, here is my take on your questions. The only thing we know for certain is that the King decided to send cuirasses to Norway in late 1709 and they arrived sometime in 1710, and it is likely that they were issued to the 3 dragoon regiments. The key question is were they worn. Give...

For which 3 Norwegian regiments do you need flags?

Re: Cavalry Regiment Saint-Paul ?

It would seem that only French material has St. Pol as a cavalry regiment. There is obviously an error in the French OB material. I am surprised that one is only using French material for Allied OBs when there is Dutch and German OBs and other material available.

Re: Cavalry Regiment Saint-Paul ?

Dannie is correct. St Pol (Paul) was a Hanoverian subsidy regiment in Dutch service. See Hall page 401 where it is spelled Paul instead of Pol. No cavalry regiment.

Clibinarium, I sent you a few pictures reference Russian scabbard for the sword bayonet and the socket bayonet. Did you receive them?

Re: The Cuirass and Swedish Cavalry

Thanks Örjan. Your comments would seem to confirm what we have determined, that a Swedish cavalry unit had a mixture of soldiers with and without a cuirass. The wearing of the cuirass would probably have been most prevalent in the King’s army, as compared to those in Courland, the Baltic provinces a...

Re: The Cuirass and Swedish Cavalry

Thanks again Dannie. Another good reference. On the surface it would seem to contradict Nordberg, but perhaps the officers and NCOs of the Livregiment retained the cuirass while the corporals and other ranks put theirs in storage. I am uncertain whether or not the cuirass was worn under the coat. Ag...
