Re: Osnabruck Leibgarde Regiment

I'm not sure what regiment you are referring to, can you give a bit more information, I did look at Oudenarde and Malplaquet but didn't find it.

Re: Status of the Scots Brigade in Dutch Service 1712

Wienand Thank you for the additional information, I had just finished reading Millner's journal, he gives a list at the end with all the units and strengths. I did wonder if the dutch took over as paymaster, I don't think the Dutch would have been able to keep that going for long, a shame they could...

Re: Status of the Scots Brigade in Dutch Service 1712

A very strange time, the only units not directly British that withdrew were the Holstein troops (1 btn Berner & 2 dragoon regiments Princes and Walef's) the Scots regiments were paid and employed by the Dutch government so would not be affected by the British peace treaty. I don't know about all the...

Re: Jacobite?? Or not!

wow a forum full of Jacobites!!

Personally I think they should never have let them back in after they got rid of Charles I, so no Jacobite or Protestant cause for me, just anti-Monarchy, then and now.

Re: Hay's Dragoon's @ Blenheim

The problem of Hay's dragoons has bugged me ever since i got hold of Dalton's lists (they are available on Google books) In my opinion there is no way that 1 squadron had 25 officers and over 300 men, the figures have to be for 2 squadrons. Now the only original OB i have seen has them with 1 sqn, o...

Re: Swiss in Dutch Pay and Ansbach

Its just occurred to me...

Is the Dutch colonel of regiment Rechteren, Ernst Lodewijk van Wilcke the same person as Hessen-Kassel general of brigade E.L. von Wilcke (Wilken/s) colonel of H-K regiment nr. 4 or just a coincidence.?

Re: Swiss in Dutch Pay and Ansbach

Think there is some confusion over Rechteren. Johan Zeger van Rechteren commanded a dutch horse regiment. the infanterie regiment Rechteren should have been called Wilcke after the colonel Brigadier Ernst Lodewijk van Wilcke, but for some reason was listed in the odbs after its commanding colonel Re...
