My highest praise for the efforts of your reenactment group, but as you say it - it's a:
reconstruction of the ancient models
So why not trust this ("my") source ?

Re: The Savoyan Army of Vittorio Amadeo II. 1689 - 1697

Hi Sergio ! My source for the "fuchsia-hue" is: http://xoomer.virgilio.it/bandsabaude/index1.html I like this colour very much, since my Napoleonic Neapolitan also have it on their flags. So it's not totally out of place. And it also could be a faded version of the Savoyan Crimson, couldn't i...

Re: The Savoyan Army of Vittorio Amadeo II. 1689 - 1697

Thanks for your kind words, I will forward them to Tom too.

The mastiff is - I think - from the Warlord Celt mastiff blister (one of my Savoyan Generals also has one on his base).

And I'm definitely playing wargames since the 70's - I started with Bruce Quarrie's Napoleonic rules in 1974.

Re: Figure comparisons

I collected and painted Foundry in my earlier days, but now changed to Frontrank.
Yes, it's a matter of taste, but it's also the size.
They're easier to paint for an old half-blind guy like me.
I can still see (most) details.

Re: Field signs

I'm searching concerning bavarian units from 1690 to 1720, but I couldn't find any prove.

I think Bavarian soldiers didn't wear oakleaves or the like on their tricornes (at any time).

Field signs

Anyone an idea or reliable source:

which armies wore field signs on their hats etc during campaigns or battles (for easier distinction) ?

I definitely know from the Austrians (oak-leaves).

Re: Dutch Uniform test

Nice paint job.

According to C.S.Grant's book "From Pike to Shot 1685 to 1720" this regiment had an ash grey coat with yellow lining, white stockings and white buttons.
The rest was not known (to Mr.Grant).
