Re: Sad day, Farewell Donald Featherstone

A key figure in the development of the hobby and like others here my own introduction to wargaming. Sadly missed, but his work will stand as his epitaph.

Re: Our First Game - Some Questions

Hi, Hope I can help. 1) see page 3 "Manouver". Units can change facing or formation. If they change facing by up to 45 degrees they may make a half move. 2) the rules don't specify when you fire. The example on page 8 shows a unit moving then firing however. 3) we play that a unit may about face but...

Re: VWQ Campaign - Ireland

Our first game was a battle between Scottish Covenanters backing the interest of their countrymen in Ulster and the Irish "rebels" under O'Neil. That battle itself saw the two sides face off on open moorland with a farm on one flank and forest on the other. The scots deployed in regular formation wi...

Re: Uniforms of the Retreat from Moscow, 1812, Worth buying?

I had the Russian campaign book Greystreak refers to. It's plates were good and I remember figures wearing furs and blankets which surely formed references for the recent perry sculpts. However they are just that, figures wearing furs and blankets, scarves and strips of cloth over or in place of the...

Re: Vistula Legion

I took a deeper look at these when I bought a box. Warlord claim they used information from the curator of a military museum in Poland and that the Vistula Legion were equipped with mainly French kit, rather than Polish and so differed from the Duchy of Warsaw (see above post) in that respect. The b...

Re: Resurrection of 1 day gaming

I'd love to come......but being based in the NE of Scotland it's a bit of a long drive and an early start for a day.

Any plans for something more central ?

After playing VWQ again last night, I'm looking forward to see how you have approached a card driven skirmish game.

Re: Help needed with my memory -PLEASE!

I believe you are confusing Time Commander which made use of computer gaming similar to the "Total War" series of PC games with the Angela Rippon hosted Game of War on ITV. Paddy Griffiths was the umpire for this which did indeed feature blocks of wood being moved around and teams of players decidin...

Re: Question on Port Arthur russo jap war

http://www.battlefieldanomalies.com/port_arthur/05_siege.htm See above link. Also google "Siege of Port Arthur" and check out the images. I've never seen "complex" ww1 style trenches with duckboards and firing steps in anything related to port arthur, but no reason why these wouldn't exist in more ...
