Re: 1672 Dutch Flag

Yes, I know their opinion on it, but it's just one source and - like I said above - there were more Frisian regiments present at the battle.

Re: 1672 Dutch Flag

22.jpg And this is "the greater picture" from the Ten Raa collection, showing on the left side the Aylva flag (the Aylva logo is embedded in the centre of the colour, on better copies it's seen more clearly) and on the right side the unidentified flag. The weapon with the two lions in the corner is...

Re: 1672 Dutch Flag

To start with.. http://rampjaar.blogspot.nl/2009/11/vaandel-reg-aylva-colour-regiment-aylva.html This is one of the colours from the book "Les Triomphes de Louis le Grand", and this is a copy from the dutch army museum, from the Ten Raa collection. Several other copies have been made of the original...

Excellent post again Arthur, as a note, the gallica editions (The French National Library) of de Beaurain's work has the maps in it:

Re: Pikemen at Fleurus

On the subject of ring bayonets, Olaf van Nimwegen writes that after the battle of Neerwinden 1693, some french rong bayonets were captured and copied and were used in the Allied armies. The french discarded the pike in 1703, the English in 1704 and the Imperialists between 1701-1705. The dutch offi...

Re: French Infantry Regiment 'Plessis-Praslin'

Great info Arthur. Students of the French army are very lucky with this wealth of information on the Ancien Regime. You really should do some research in the archives, it's very rewarding and great fun.

Re: Books/internet links Duch Forces 1660-1721 uniforms and

Mine arrived today, together with the new book of Wienand Drenth (http://britisharmylineages.blogspot.nl/2013/04/a-regimental-list-of-reduced-officers.html) so I had a great day after all! First impressions: very good, based on Belaubre, the legacy of Dr de Wilde, own research of the authors, Tessin...

Re: information on Portuguese regiments

You are a bit early, the University of Lisbon is just setting up a project about the WSS and the Portugese:

http://guerradasucessao.weebly.com/index.html

One of their targets is "to set up a catalogue of names of Portugese soldiers that had a role in the WSS".

Re: Galloper guns

Three pounder guns were used in the way that Maciek describes by the States' army as well, but general opinion was these weren't too effective.

Re: Spanish Bourbon Infantry Uniforms at Almanza

I admit to have bought the book for the pretty pictures, as my spanish reading is too sow to really enjoy the text...but from what I have gathered the book basically confirms the whi...
