Re: LOA Fitzjames Horse?

At the beginning of the campaign, and once the troops were mounted, Dover took the 1st Troop of Lifeguards, whilst Berwick took the 2nd Troop. Possibly around this time (if not earlier) John Parker moved from the Horse Grenadiers to command his own regiment.

Re: Books/internet links Duch Forces 1660-1721 uniforms and

Greg, I think I misinterpreted you - my comment about the "rights" was in the event of anyone reproducing the articles not an indexed list of where they can be found. All, ref Robert's book on the Dutch - Definitely HB and PB can't see any refs to electronic, but that's not to say it would never hap...

Would suggest it'll follow the format of his previous works on Armies of Louis XIV, Austria, Palatinate etc and so HB then PB before anything else.

Irish Bits 1689 etc

Apologies if this seems a little disjointed, but rather than hijack a number of threads I thought that I'd throw a few of the answers here together: a) Irish Dragoons - When discussing the kit sent to Ireland the French sources often keep it simple i.e. coats, shirts, boots hats etc etc which means ...

Re: Lord Clare's Dragoon's?

Dave - and apologies to Ray for the hijacking - one thing that has just hit me as I read your comment is that whilst the French sources quote "coats" etc and we generally take the majority of these to be the good old gris-mesle they are cut differently for the different arms of service. By that I me...

Re: Lord Clare's Dragoon's?

Ray, as Clare's were one of the original "tranche" of units raised, I'd have gone for red coats and yellow distinctions. The thing (IMHO) to stay well clear of is this whole "yellow coat" fiasco. AFAIK the only "evidence" for a yellow coat is a painting owned by Harman Murtagh which he includes in h...

Re: Oxford "Blues" in Ierland

Unfortunately what happened is they were "presented" to the crown and either left to rot or destroyed. There are a large number of hints out there as to what/why/when but more often than not they end up as dead ends, that's what takes the time. One day though, one day....
