From the reference to Elite Miniatures, I assume you are interested in 28mm, rather than 15mm. If so, help may be at hand; at the moment, it's only infantry, but you could contact the owner/designer and see when he plans to release cavalry:- http://www.calpeminiatures.co.uk/ Some pictures are here:-...

There's a guy called "The Flag Dude" who provides animated (ie folded) flags, properly mounted on staffs with the correct cords/cravattes etc. http://www.flagdude.com/ Personally, I think he makes the common error of leaving the "-" portion of the staff too long, but that's just me (and you can alwa...

Poor anatomy, wooden poses, inaccurate uniform items (huge bicornes). This era, and the Peninsular Portuguese, are just crying out for a decent range of modern figures. The 1806 Prussians and Saxons in particular have no real proponents other than the elderly, heavenward gazing, Elite range.

I noticed the surprising lack of green uniforms or even facings in this period. The standard kit seems to have been a grey-white coat and red or blue facings. There is the problem that Ronan mentions, although that didn't stop Napo era armies wearing green. 1) The Napoleonic period came at the star...

According to Charles Grant's two-volume work "Armies and Uniforms of Marlborough's Wars", in Austrian service there were the seven regiments of Walloons, the Alt Heister-Nigrelli and the Lorraine infantry regiments, and the Schlick dragoon regiment. Elsewhere, the Leibregiment of Osnabruck; the Bouf...

Mounted infantry officers

Can anyone advise on whether (and if so, which) infantry officers were usually mounted during the WSS period? I would imagine that the colonel most certainly would be, but what about battalion commanders, adjutants, and so on? I am looking primarily at "German" armies, such as Bavaria, Saxony etc. M...

FWIW, here are my views based on comparing the AWI with the tactics of the Napoleonic battlefield. Unfortunately, the subject of squares is an area where the Napoleonic experience has coloured the views of many wargamers as to what went before (skirmishing is another such area - Napoleonic tactics s...

I have to say, even when taken out of context and juxtaposed in that way, they don't strike me as the most blindingly obvious examples of national bias I've ever read. Both suggest to me that it was a crappy time to be in the artillery. Ruthless efficiency can often be a back-handed compliment. Inci...

Barry's Article in Battlegames

IN Barry's recent article in Battlegames 14, he mentioned problems with warped bases, even the 3mm pre-cut ones. I've not used this style of basing yet, and most of my basing in the past has been 15mm on beer mats, using Tetrion (ready-mixed), with four foot or two horse to a base (so fairly small a...

Plume for officers is the same colour as the company they belonged to, but their shako cords would be gold. Ensigns (ie flag-bearers) would both be white-over-red plumes and gold cords, as only the junior subalterns from the centre companies would carry the colours, never those from the flank compan...

You're welcome! Just flicking through the Perry website again, if you and your group aren't that worried about minor details then some of the Imperial Guard infantry (Old Guard grenadiers/chasseurs) in the older-style habite would be ok for French/Italian/Confederation ligne grenadiers/legere carabi...
