Re: perrys british awi infantry

Hi, I've replied to your original post on the "General Discussion" forum. The only thing I would add is that line troops did not wear the roundabout - at least not in red - because only the light companies had red waistcoats, which formed the basis of the conversion. This may have happened later in ...

Re: guards brigade in the american war of independence

Whilst it is indeed unlikely that any set of colours was carried, because the brigade consisted of detachments from all three regiments, there is a story that the Major's (third King's) colour and one company colour from the 3rd Guards made it over the Atlantic. I have never been able to find the so...

Re: perrys a.w.i britsh

Hi, For line infantry, you need the figures in slouch hat and cut-down coat; in case you are unfamiliar with the terms, a "slouch hat" (actually an anachronism as it's an ACW/Colonial term) is a plain hat turned up (or "cocked") on the left side only, to avoid the musket whilst marching, whilst a cu...

Re: New Book on Saxon Army in the GNW

Does it have flag details? I used to have all of the Saxon flags (kindly sent to me by Dan Schorr years ago), but my wife "reorganised" my computer and now I can't find the file anywhere.

Re: Venexia - Savoy

Do you know what years these uniforms represent? I have an article from an early edition of "Miniature Wargames" that covers the 1704-1712 period and some of the infantry uniforms are quite different (eg from memory, Schomberg is blue coats with white facings and Chablais is all white, whilst the Mi...

Re: Ebor miniatures new Crimean British Command greens

Don't suppose there's any chance of British infantry in greatcoats (preferably with a selection of heads) is there? Seems to be the one thing nobody ever gets around to in Crimean ranges.

Re: The cost of wargames figures

I realise that I'm coming a bit late to this discussion, so apologies. However, I do feel that there is one important matter that has not been mentioned. Until about 3-4years ago (maybe even more recently), Eureka figures were extremely reasonably priced - in fact, almost a steal at barely £1 a figu...

Re: Eppinger's Dragoons

Our thinking was to do small engagements with on a 10:1 ratio. Well as it turns out our standard infantry regiments are turning out to be around 70 figures. Very expensive and time consumimg and not very maneuverable on our wargames table. There are two main problems with "up-sizing" in this way. 1...

Re: Question about the 28th at Waterloo.

Further to my earlier post, here is an article on British Army legwear:- http://www.warof1812.ca/trousers.htm As you can see, three versions of the grey trousers/overalls were trialled during the Walcheren Expedition in 1809 and the "winning design" - which appears to have been the one being tested ...

Re: Question about the 28th at Waterloo.

IIRC, British infantry went to grey overalls around 1811 (it was just before the 1812 clothing changes). The only British infantry known to have anything different at Waterloo were the 2/2nd and 2/3rd Foot Guards, who had white overalls. It is very unlikely that any unit had a mix of colours, or wou...

Re: Historically Inspiring - An Incident in the Rebellion

Regarding the position of the grenadier company in the painting, there are two possible explanations as to why it is in the "wrong" place. 1) During this period, whilst the grenadier company took the "post of honour" on the extreme right flank when a battalion was on parade, in battle the grenadier ...
