I've done enough parades, search and rescues in wooded terrain I too have done drill competitions, line searches in woods, and FOD walks (foreign object damage) on flight lines and you are correct. A line moves at different rates. But in our period we want to move at the same rate. Lets add to the ...

This whole movement debate plays smack in the middle of realism vs playability. Sure historically foot moved slow and cavalry wasn't much faster. Finding a balance is the key. 6" is too fast, 4" is too slow so how about 5"? How many players want to spend 5-7 turns in a game before something decisive...

Perhaps a move of 5" and charge of 6"? Seems the happy medium between the 4" and 6".

v3rules read thru observations

+2 for foot holding fire, consider reducing to +1. In all cases this fire is going to be sporadic at best. Charging formed foot frontally should be a dicey gamble for horse, but once they make contact the advantage should be theirs. The original turn sequence flow works fine, rout moves etc at turn ...

The tactical decision to send them in then becomes much more spicy.. I am in total agreement with your reasoning for adding variable movement and unknowns to other aspects of the game. We have a couple of players who these rules will confound and I'm happy to accomodate. I would just be mindful of ...

My only argument would be cavalry have no place in dense woods.

The group is still reviewing the suggestion..

Your next question may be, which horse are Blade and which are Bullet? In the rules Barry broke it down a little bit by nationality and years of who used what methodology. I think one reason you dont see a modifier for receiving the charge at the halt is because there inst one. Cavalry caught sittin...

Heres my answers to the questions as I understand the rules currently. - Rolling for morale. In the original rules an unmodified 6 was an automatic pass - not listed in the play test set New rules covering morale for both foot and horse. The auto rally 6 is gone in the new rules. Now you use the mor...

what do they do in the third bound If quindia is correct in saying both throw one die regardless of modifiers then both roll 1 die. However regardless of the outcome both units are now effectively destroyed as they lose 2 figures a round in the melee. Three rounds = six casuatlies. Even if reinforc...

During melee modifiers can leave you with 1/2 die etc. Do we round these up or down? If a unit suffers negative modifiers they get no roll or should they always roll one die?

I would have thought that once you are ordered to defend something then that is it. As it says it will be very difficult to move them. First thing we need to clarify is the General Orders and the Command Allowance Orders. At game start each brigade is given a General order. ie Take the hill and def...

I say stick it in the optional rules section. Go with the standard movement for units with variable for routs, pursuit and evades in the core rules.

Road column of march was discussed via email as well. We play tested it last night. We had a 12 turn game, played all 12 turns on a 5'x7' table and it was turn 9 or 10 before those troops were a factor in the game. Too late to matter as well. Part of the reason for that was the command rolls each tu...
