Re: OOB Fleurus, 1690 - Dutch

I have just started to look at this campaign, quite a lot out there, have you found anything else of interest, anything you are having problems with?

I would like to see some discussion on this interesting action.

Re: Danish Foot at Aughrim

Mike, just came across this while reading accounts of Aughrim Letter Würtemberg to Christian V n.d. [note says maybe 17 July] .... The foot advanced through the bog, while the cavalry defiled over a paved causeway which led towards the castle..... page 122 of Danaher & Simms (1962) he mentions it ag...

Re: Danish Foot at Aughrim

Yes you are right, however it wasn't meant to be a reproduction of the proper day of battle OOB, just an interpretation of the original document. however I have amended it, and added the possibility of Schack replacing one of the Ginkel regiments (which I sadly thought about on the way to work this ...

Re: WSS Dragoons

Yes the standard for Regiments of horse tended to be 2 squadrons or 6 troops/companies Dragoon regiments tended to be larger 3, 4 or 5 squadrons (ignoring the Austrians who all mounted units were 6 squadrons or 12 companies) The French dragoon was at home mounted or not, but at this period they were...

You can pick them up for about £4-5 online, although one UK bookshop is asking £100 for the 1965 edition of Blenheim LOL

My bookshelves and wardrobe are currently full.

Re: Danish Foot at Aughrim

Thanks to Wienand's links we can see that the 20F was Gustavus Hamilton who became viscount Boyne, died 1723. the other one using the Swedish would be colonel of the regiment that became Abraham Creighton's the day after Aughrim and disbanded 1698 Gustav Ludvigsson Hamilton. he died in 1691 perhaps ...

Re: Danish Foot at Aughrim

Dan has already posted a link to the full book by Story (story book lol) it is also available on Google books, only 35MB and no crease in the OOB, but to be safe get both, in case something is missing or unreadable. The book was published in 1693 and is remarkably detailed, in fact most later author...

Re: Danish Foot at Aughrim

just little snippet Dutch horse regiment 672c 1688 Colonel George, baron de Riedesel 1690? Colonel Erik Gustaaf van Steinbeck the same regiment, so all your source agree, just not on the name. only the year is mentioned for the changeover so obviously information isn't good, a new colonel may have t...
