Re: Blenheim OOB

Ray, I wasn't correcting you I just didn't understand the comment you made ..
I'm a bit puzzled at the Anhalt Dessau battalion's as these were Prussian's, not Brandenburg battalions.
and i basically said they are the same thing, which i'm sure you knew anyway, forums can be so hard at times.

Re: Blenheim OOB

The electorate of Brandenburg became known as Prussia in 1701 so for a while the two names mean the same, so don't understand the puzzle? or have I misread you.

Re: Gaps between battalions and squadrons

I'm not convinced about such large gaps for the period 1680s onwards, I think the norm was 15-20 m/yrds, certainly early 18th c. regulations specify this, most of the time the battalion would just open up a couple of platoons and the other regiment would file through either way on a frontage of 3,4 ...

Re: Musicians uiform of the 1st Guard Regiment - Help

I'll just add this from Lawson vol 1 pg. 25 Court musicians as well as those of the Household troops wore the Royal livery of scarlet faced with blue and laced with gold, he also describes a drum-major of the 1st Guards in 1713 crimson coat lined blue serge .... and a lot more details. There is also...

Re: Hanoverian regiments @ Blenheim info. needed?

for de Luc (2A & 7B) I btn at Blenheim (2A) 1676 Green and silver 1680 white, green cuffs, yellow vest, and silver 1706 red coat majority were in red quite early on. a few changed from white in 1702, the two battalions of de Luc were obviously just a bit slow. the garde were wearing red in 1679 it c...

Re: Hanoverian regiments @ Blenheim info. needed?

For Sichart, vol 1 does go to 1705 but only for regimental info, vol 2 contains details of the 1704 campaign (feldzug 1704) a bit confusing at first till you understand the layout of the volumes. The German is ok its the old script that makes it hard. There is a small mention of uniforms in vol 1? i...

Re: Crisis 2013 figure

Patrick, do you have pictures of any other generals plaques (1688-1763) or even plaques on battlefields, houses etc

What was meant to be on the first posting you made, two images but the links are wrong.

Re: Blenheim OOB

It maybe the camera work, but the Prinz Wilhelm look much nicer, in fact very nice, the flags and particularly the tassels look great.
The Ebor sculpts look nicer than Front Rank.

Re: count schombergs forces at the boyne

A Colonel in the British army (and others) could have a few roles. He would be colonel of his regiment and captain of the senior company or troop, if he held no other rank then he would normally lead his regiment on campaign, he may not have a regiment at all. A lot of colonels also held a Generals ...

Re: count schombergs forces at the boyne

Wienand, thank you I don't have the Boyne book, or your book yet! and is there and OB on this site? I had checked the regimental histories and could find no evidence of them at the Boyne, hence the ?? and I don't have the Scots guards, so wasn't sure, but there is a return for them being in Ireland....
