jb, If you're looking at AWI rules, try "British Grenadier" by Eclaireur, which cover 1:20 down to 1:10 (and in fact have been used successfully at 1:5 as well). The troop categories will cover the types you will be using, whilst the disruption points will reflect the difficulties of both sides in c...

Two alternatives:- 1) Depending on how you structure your units, you could possibly use the "Brother Against Brother" ACW rules - they are somewhat bloody, but have F&I/AWI/1812 amendments that would provide for the more flexible troop types you would be using. These are set at squad level, with pla...

Certainly most of the figures in greatcoats would be ok, and there are several British accounts suggesting that the French tended to wear long coats quite a lot in battle. Your problem is the figures in "normal" uniforms. 1812 saw a change in style for the French army, with all arms moving from the ...

IIRC, Portmore's was formerly Kirke's (the Queen's Regiment of Tangiers fame). Were they ever fusiliers? If not, I would imagine they would have had pike as well as shot.

87th definitely green (and a sound bunch of Irish lads to boot, so very few morale problems as long as you keep the black stuff coming.....).

The 51st and 68th both had deep green facings, and also became light infantry regiments - not sure exactly when for each though.

Noooooo!!!!! The 43rd had white facings, so white coat faced red. Unfortunately, this means you'll have to do some fancy black lining (or similar) on the coat lace to make it stand out. Also, the "reversed colours" thing didn't apply to regiments with dark blue facings - essentially Foot Guards and ...

Yes, I was going to ask about the figure:man ratio. The captions to the Wurtemburg pics in your (excellent) gallery indicated that 1:10 would be the standard, but I've noticed larger ratios creeping into discussions on this forum and wondered if you'd rethought this for some reason. My main period i...

At the risk of sounding naive (which I am in the context of this period), why did the introduction of the socket bayonet necessarily require the removal of the pike?

Would not the extra reach of the pike still be useful against cavalry (eg in protecting the colours)?

Jeremy, Based on the action of the Fusilier Brigade at Albuhera, then there might be a case for such a rating. However, on balance, they were really just line infantry with a slightly better pedigree; possibly on a par with, say, a Highland Brigade (although, unlike the latter, they didn't wear thei...
