Re: Question (for Gunter?) on Saxon cuirassiers

Roger and Gunter,

Thank you very much, that was exactly the information I was looking for.

Re: Bicorne miniatures

The newest Bicorne figures are not as big as the earliest ones (which were sculpted by the same person who did Renegade), but are still larger than Perry/Foundry. All Bicorne figures currently come with a head attached, and the spare heads are for use as replacements. There are quite a lot of packs ...

Question (for Gunter?) on Saxon cuirassiers

Hi, Recalling Dan Schorr's website, from a few years back, he suggested that Saxon cuirassier other ranks during the first decade of the 18th Century, wore a sleeved buff coat, with the cuirass worn over it, rather than the red coat, with the cuirass worn under that. Officers appear to have worn the...

Re: Loads more new Russians... and some Swedes

The position is indeed that for "charge bayonets" before the idea of actual "fencing" with it came along.

Some lovely games there.

The blue on that cupola is really quite striking, isn't it?

Re: British 1799 army in Holland

Waiting on some light infantry in round hats with crest, looks a bit like a tirliton. [not sure of the spelling] Also some light Dragoons in Tirliton. It's actually called a "Tarleton" after a British commander from the American War of Independence. That said, he didn't invent it - it was probably ...

Re: Stripping Paint From Miniatures

I've been using Dettol, occasionally neat, the rest of the time 50:50 with water (having been told the latter works better), followed by a scrub over with an electric toothbrush. Works - to a point - on metal, plastic or resin figures; however I have found limitations that I haven't seen reported by...

Re: The Stuart's in Exile

The programme is a broad brush approach, not made for us geeks. I thought that it was pretty good, a fairly easy watch and quite informative. As someone who is far from being steeped in Jacobite lore, I found a lot of the information new to me (especially the post-'45 stuff on BPC himself), and so ...

Re: Looking for new Sculpting challenges

Personally I think if one picks a range to do you have to be willing to see the whole thing through, even if it takes a while, and a good range can take years. I think the Perry AWI line has developed over about ten years! As the principal researcher for that range, I can tell you it's more like 15...

Re: Looking for new Sculpting challenges

OK. :D Maybe look at doing a genuinely comprehensive range for SYW or FPW, like Barry has done for the LoA/GNW period? Any value in resurrecting the old Helion 1860s range and extending it? Despite having never been interested in late 19C wars, I was almost tempted by the skirmish game potential in ...

Re: Looking for new Sculpting challenges

Is this 28mm? If so, I won't vote as these are not periods I would game anyway, and I don't want to skew the result. However, fwiw I would have thought that the markets for all but SYW and FPW were pretty much saturated in this size/scale, unless you plan to go "skirmish" or look at minor nations/un...

Re: 1612 uniforms

The significance of 1812 in terms of French uniforms, is that it was the year that the Bardin reforms were announced. However, it seems that it took a long time for the new uniforms to be introduced and some/many/all (?) of the units involved in the invasion of Russia had the older style. Hopefully ...

Re: a question about flagstaff color

British/KGL flag staffs were plain, dark wood.

French eagle staffs were all dark blue, I think.

Re: Liberators!

I've bought stuff from them - not huge amounts, but bits and pieces over the years (including some S American figures) - and they are very friendly and very reasonably priced. Simon (Lee, I think) will also consider making specific stuff to add to an existing range, if you want. http://www.parkfield...

Re: battery of guns and howitzers

Sergio, I think in all of your examples, the overwhelming types of damage would be death or wounds to the crew/horses, and smashing/splintering of the wooden parts of the gun/limber. A direct hit from a ball might dismount the barrel, especially if it came from a flank, and this could snap off one o...
