Rules

Received my copy today - it was waiting for me at work after a brief holiday. A superb publication. High production values - it is a model of how to do a set of rules. Many others - even popular sets - look frankly dismal alongside it. If you want to explain formations, basing and the look of a game...

Thirty Years War

Barry,
I know its not as if you aren't busy or anything but any chance of posting in the War Chest the 1644 revisions for the Thirty Years War?
An amazing website and resource has of course just got even better with the re-design. All the best.

Really helpful - thanks. Could you also comment on the mixing of knights/men at arms and the "lower orders in the same units? Do you do a first rank of knights and the rest ordinary billmen or whatever? Similarly do you mix knights and sergeants in the same mounted units? No doubt future pictures wi...

Darrell,

Really looking forward to more pictures.
can I ask a very basic question for which there is probably no simple answer? What are the best sources for livery and shield designs. I can find lots of pictures of shields but not sure how this translates into what the knights are wearing?

Reiver and Front Rank Miniatures

Would these work side-by-side on the table albeit in different units or are they very different in size/bulk.

HYW Basing

Darrell, many thanks for taking the trouble to respond point by point. I think this is the way to go in so many periods; each base or in your case, unit as a small vignette. Please do put up the rest of your army as you complete each unit. you have a few photos of bill's lovely 100 Years War figures...

HYW Basing

Darrell,
fantastic and inspiring work.
Please could you explain a little about the basing.
Is this for WAB? How many figures does each of your longbow units amount to? I'm more used to seeing neatly ranked up units on square bases and your work is a fantastic change for the better.

These guys seem to have a hat style that is not available in the Front Rank range. Could I use heads from the appropriate Foundry figures or are they much smaller? Does anyone have a couple spare that I could purchase if suitable? Thanks

Put me down for version 4 Barry. I know you have tons to do but maybe in simple form, on-line, I'm increasingly eager to see the Thirty Years War amendments for 1645 Rules. The assault group look to be doing a comprehensive western European range to go along with their eastern Turks etc. All the bes...

Thanks

Prompt wargaming wisdom as ever. Thanks guys. Barry does one have to have the two bases per squad ie two fire teams - or could one rationalise it down to one? You seem to have gone away from the 1:1 figure ratio already. Maybe a para or two in warchest on how you set about it might be helpful. yes, ...

Flames of War in 28mm

Barry, tempted by your experiences to have a go. Uncertain about basing - so many people base 28mm figures individually. (This would also allow flexibility to use other rule systems). Could you do this and just move them in groups of five, or, I have found a five figure base 90mm x 50mm looks pretty...
