Post by Anonymous » Mon Jan 17, 2011 2:01 pm

Gentlemen,

Some other share updates on upcoming events or exibitions of some kind. A handfull here are traders who take a sneek peek at what we are thinking

Please, to all of you, who are writing in this forum fillin the few requested points in the profile like in which city or country You are living or what your interests are.*
It would be very kind of you to help anybody to find friends who are, maybe, living behind the next door or in the next town.

Thank You in advance for Your time and Kindness

Best Wishes

A Sobriety of Scotsmen?

Valleyboy,

I could not but help notice that you hail from Aotearoa and would ask that you join me in lauding the cricketing abilities of your friends across the Tasman sea:

What do you call an Australian who is very good with a bat?
...a vet.

What do you call an Australian batsman with Zinc Cream on his nose?
...an optimist.

Orabest from this Jock,

Jim

Aussie vs. Kiwi

Ask a kiwi how to pronounce the following:
fish and chips
six
ten

Kiwi: Fush and Chups, Sux and Tin
Excerpt:
"I find Australians to be more open, louder and gregarious in conversation, very inviting, etc. Aussies tend to be more open in inviting you into their group, whatever whereever that may be. Kiwis are almost always more reserved, more formal, friendly yet not as open. Kiwis I find take a lot more effort to be true friends with them beyond the usual pleasantries. Also I notice Kiwis tend to shy away from direct confrontation, arguments or debates. With Aussies I find you can have a good raging debate going about whatever and it's all good fun with no harm done, while often in debates I find Kiwis can take it personally if one doesn't see their way."

An Autie (somewhere in Germany we get called "Schluchtenscheisser")
(Bavarians are named "Flachlandtiroler" by some Austrians)
I'm curious who got the first translation of these words

I promise I haven't googled Gunter but my guesses are:

Austrians - Shit -shovellers?
Bavarians - Flatland Austrians (ie substandard Austrians?)

I do know that Belgians call Dutchmen Kass-Kopf - Cheese Heads

The worst insult a Norwegian can call you is a 'Swede' - I have had many laughs with that in my job and working for a Swedish company.

Norwegians and Danes don't really like Swedes much. Norwegians and Swedes think Danes are rather rough, loud and big headed..

Hmm it goes on...

I always liked the old cliche from Germany..

The Germans love the Italians but don't respect them
The Italians hate the Germans but respect them

You are pretty close, Barry

I think most of us have one part of our own country we "love" most.

Very interesting point about Germans and Italiens and most certainly true :)

My Dad encounterd, while working in Lybia, many inhabitants who said:
Italiens? They should work here? Oh, Please dont!

On the other hand the Italiens call the Lybiens a horde of barefooted People.

You should lecture about the historical background why Swedes are so "loved" by the Norwegians and Danes

My translation was "mountain men wannabe."

I guess that explains why they sided with the French against the Austrians so often . . .

Stomping is such a harsh word, as I understand "liberating" is the term we should use nowadays.

But that's all in the past, we're all friends now. And I'll much rather be called a "norwegian" than a "nollåtta" (slang for someone from Stockholm)

The slang term for people just down the road from me is "Pie eaters" or Wiganers if you prefer. However ,whilst they have a pie eating contest every year and are famously proud of these pies, i was surprised to find the nickname was given to them by other northern mining towns who during a miners strike eons ago saw the Wiganers return to work first. And thus the Wiganers ate "Humble Pie"
As with most things , theres usually a dark undercurrent!

as for international nicknames , i often heard the Croats call the Serbs "Chitneks" ................i'm guessing its not nice...anyone know what it means?
(The historical evidence that God comes from Lancashire is slim, however he's definitely not from Yorkshire)

The word you are looking for is Chetniks,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chetniks

In short a serbian militia who fought against all kind of people, some only against military personal, some against civilians too.
As the Croats say Chetnik to the Serbs, the Serbs say the Croats are all Ustascha, colaborating, pro Nazi people.

Both is wrong.

Hope that helps somehow

Günter
