Thread Hijacking - is it a crime?

Post by barr7430 » Thu Aug 25, 2011 11:07 pm

Joe and Dave's good natured exchange on the VWQ Board made me think about the question. It actually happens quite regularly on this forum but not in a malicious way. I wondered what you folks thought about that.
When we were off doing the most recent R2E weekender the alcohol fuelled a few funny discussions about the longest running threads with the most posts and whether subjects were kept going artificially by their original authors to pass 'milestones'... 50 posts, 75 posts, 100 posts etc...

I personally quite like the byways of some of the threads but often continuity can be lost with a quip or joke which takes things off in a new (possibly irritating for some) direction.

I have noticed that on TMP there are several, serial thread hijackers who seem to use ANY subject/thread to peddle their pish (Clarence, that is another good Scots word that you must incorporate into you lexicon together with... bawbag ((courtesy of Pauly Walnuts)), scroat, tosser and wanker((I think all courtesy of me)) )... now, look , I've gone and hijacked this thread with my crap..

Keeping with the original posters thoughts,

Póg mo Thóin (pronounced: pogue muh ho-in), one phrase I can never use enough. Clarence be sure to add it to your repertoire.

Oh yeah hi-jacking.. as long as you dont demand to take me to Libyia or some such nonsense.

..but really as long as the hi-jack is in the ballpark (add that Barry) it doesnt bother me and most threads tend to come back to the original idea eventually.

Embezzlement is actually quite common in wargaming circles. I remember a case of it in a club I once frequented.. not major, couple of grand but enough to wipe us out. There are several alleged high profile instances too but to talk of them could be dangerous!

Is it that bad that it's criminal or are you just trying to hijack this thread?

I am surprised that no one has attempted to introduce the subject of pike rot. It did take up such a lot of our time at the weekend. Wasn't someone going to post a link to some research from California or something?

You're hijacking your own thread AGAIN!!!

Anyway I'm not convinced about the pike rot theory until I see some the evidence that was mentioned at the weekend.

Well we will be doing our best to look after the Scottish Rugby team when they come stay in our town for the world Cup, still, a shame for them that the All Blacks will win :)

Is "Pike Rot" similar to "Knob Rot" but on a larger scale? Or is it another one of Dave O's events that strike you down mid-...
