Thickness of bases for scenery

Post by simon boulton » Fri Jan 25, 2013 11:28 am

I'm planning on making some scenery like fields, orchards and villages soon and was wondering what thickness of material for the bases would be best? Planning to use MDF,
Many thanks,
Simon

I use nothing thicker than a 1/4 inch.

I use MDF quite a bit for this & find 2mm ( approx 1/12inch) works well if you let it dry at its own rate if you try to speed it up using heat it may warp I also use 3mm(approx 1/8inch) for some of the larger pieces. Thicker than that MDF gets quite heavy I have seen some on put their back out shifting a small box of 1/2 inch MDF hills for example.
