Gentlemen,
I hope that some of you can recommend some period fiction to me.
I know that historical fiction can be despised by the highbrow literati, but I like it as escapism, and also to rekindle my enthusiasm.
I'm looking for anything from the Williamite/Marlburian/SYW periods.
Thanks in advance.

SYW: The Luck of Barry Lyndon
by William Makepeace Thackeray
The Cornet of Horse: A Tale of Marlborough's Wars
By George Alfred Henty
With Frederick the Great by G. A. Henty
The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman (or, more briefly, Tristram Shandy) is a humorous novel by Laurence Sterne; and is totally nuts
William by the Grace of God. By Marjorie Bowen.
'An admirable novel with William of Orange as its hero.' OOPS, this is about William the Silent, Prince of Nassau in the previous century.

You might like the Jack Steel novels (Man of Honour and Rules of War) by Iain Gale that cover Blenheim and Ramillies.

Thanks lads.
Yes, I'm quite partial to a bit of Henty.
