TARGE 2014 Saturday 8th November 2014

Post by Dale » Fri Oct 24, 2014 12:38 pm

TARGE 2014 on Saturday 8th November takes place in Websters High School, Prosen Road, Kirriemuir. Eighteen clubs/groups, large and small, are displaying with the largest number of participation tables we have ever had. There are actually more than 18 tables with some clubs putting on more than one, loads of traders, many hundreds of pounds worth of prizes and a wealth of talent on display throughout the show.

Colin Jack from SESWC heads the judging panel, assisted by Archie Dick, Kirriemuir, Kenny Thompson, Falkirk, Grant Murray, Angus and Eric Thomson Perth. The panel is made public, not so you can bribe them but in the interests of openness and fairness.

Steve Shaw has designed the free figure once again this year. It's Robert the Bruce on foot and the figure looks great. Steve will have his painted example at the entry desk.

We have had several promises of large numbers of painted figures for the Bring and Buy so look out for the bargains.

As many of you will know TARGE makes a donation to Combat Stress each year. In addition Jim and Hugh from SESWC will run a sales table selling the late Ian Holt's collection on behalf of Combat Stress.

Come along for an enjoyable day at TARGE with free onsite parking and sample the delights of Lee's Takeaway, participate in any number of games, take part in the competitions and overspend on lead with the traders.

For anyone who doesn't know where Kirriemuir is, it's 30 miles north of Perth and 17 miles inland from Dundee, all in Bonnie Scotland. Too far for you? Half of our traders travel up from the North East of England as do the Border Reivers and Durham Wargames Club. As I have mentioned in the past, our futhest travelled wargames visitor phoned up from Argentina for directions to Kirriemuir and then hopped over via Geneva, London and Edinburgh airports to be our honorary guest for the day. Now that is dedication.

The birthplace of JM Barrie (Peter Pan), Bon Scott (AC/DC) and Munro of Scottish munros fame welcomes you to a day with other sweaty wargamers.

Concurring with Barry's (Hilton, not JM) views on the hobby, over twenty of Kirriemuir Wargames Club juniors will be helping out at TARGE. Some of our earlier juniors, now in their twenties, will be running wargames shows in the future.

Remember to bring your entries for the painting and modelling competitions. We have over £800.00 worth of prizes and vouchers for the competitions. Have a look at the categories on the website www.kirriemuirwargames.co.uk or just appear with your entries and the stewards will help you enter into the correct category.

I believe over 50% of our tables are participation this year so, if you're up for it, you can blow a dam, sink a ship, take a tower, trash the opposition. Whatever floats your boat, with the exception of the the sink a ship!
