Bamberg 9th March 1632

Enjoy the photos another 95 of these are on the website to feast your eyes on.

cheers and keep wargaming the hobby...malc the manc.

The arrival of the Catholic forces seemed to undermine Horns confidence
in the Bamberg position. He positioned his newly raised Solms infantry in
the inadequate earthworks with cavalry screen out front with the majority
of his cavalry waiting on the left flank.Horn planned to let his new recruits
take the brunt of the attack while placing his more experienced forces on the
safer side of the river and sending his baggage and the majority to the rear.

Earthworks were not fully constructed and are classed as soft cover

Objective - For the Catholics to cross the bridge and capture the town
the Swedish force was to defend.

Great looking game Malc but where is the battle report?
Judging by the last photo the good guys never made it over the bridge?
What rules did you use for a game that size?
Cheers
Dave

Sorry about that, uploading 95 photos and edit them took my mind in another direction, yea the game went well, only a matter of time for the Catholics to smash up the earthworks and march across the bridge, the Swedish held out and was a tough nut to crack but poor Len at the club had a couple of snake eyes thrown and followed by higher number of 3 on a two dice 6 turned the game on its head and it was funny has hell.
Rules we looked into was the Father Tilly rules but we found them slow for large battles we game and things did'nt seem to move.
Pike and Shot was put forward but the movement in the book was stupid so we addapted the Father Tilly movement and also the Initiative rule which worked perfect together, we also used the cards from Father Tilly...with a couple of tweaks here and there we got it right and everything ran smooth and alot quicker and a little more bloody.
So we now have a great set of rules for large games that can have a outcome by the end of the evening which we always wanted and a great feel for the period came across to all...i like to call it wargame research lol.

I can confirm that the rules worked extremely well, as a Swedish army commander the result was disappointing, especially as Len held a couple of really useful Tokens of War but forgot to use them at crucial times (note to self....check Lens cards next time!!!) but seriously it was great fun and as a first trial of the amalgamated rules worked brilliantly, looking forward to the next one in about a month as next week its AWI and week after WW2 no peace for the wicked wargamer!

Quite pretty. You've got a very vibrant color on several of the Catholic regiments - are they that bright in life, or is it a figment of the photography? They're very pretty!

I am sure he will and if you have any info to enable him to make them please let us know as that seems to be the biggest problem with 30 years war ,the lack of information

Beautiful game.
Do you have any advice on printing out the flags ?
What paper is best to use ? I am really not sure how permanent the inks are in the average ink jet printer. Maybe once they are varnished they are more long-lasting. Would welcome any advice from those who have used these wonderful lags. i am particularly taken by the saxons.
