Battle of Otterburn figures

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Battle of Otterburn figures

Post by Sheepman » Sat Sep 11, 2010 10:02 am

Hi guys,
it's been a while since I've been on as my computer has been playing up. Anyway I finally got round to photographing some of my figures. It ain't a professional job (either the photography or the painting) but one does what one can.
So here are some of the 1388 battle of Otterburn figures I have been working on and off for the last couple of years. The heraldry/standards for each of the knights/men at arms is correct with each figure named underneath (how sad is that!)
The main primary source is of course Froissart however thanks go to Charlie Wesencraft for his advice. Figures are mainly Old Glory.

As you may just about notice this young lady has been 'enhanced' with Green Stuff, she's a big lass!

Hope these are OK, if anyone wants any info please give me a shout.

Excellent work and nice figures too... I think the designer of the Lady G (no not Gaga) figure spends too much time in his room surfing the wrong kinds of site

On the contrary, Barry, I personally think that that's the best use of green stuff that I've seen in a long time.

Seriously though, those figures are magnificent.

Blimey! This is much more up my street!! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Excellent work! Otterburn is an interesting battle, especially for Henry Hotspur whose choice of going ahead without the Bishop of Durham's archers had predictable results. It has a later echo in Clarence's stupididty at the Battle of Bauge (again against the Scots but this time taking place in France).

Where in Northumberland are you Dave? If you are so predisposed, I quite fancy a game at some point in time. What say you?

Darrell.

Thanks for the responses lads all very kind especially as this is the first time I have posted pics anywhere. Soon I will put on a few more periods that I have painted up over the years though I must get a light box for close ups etc.
Darrell, I live in Morpeth but game at the Border Reiver club at Blagdon Hall every Wednesday at 1900, really a very friendly bunch who game for a laugh and don't take things too seriously. Please either yourself or anyone who is in the area do come along all are welcome.
