The raising of the Saxon Army 1810-1813

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Thank You :D

Ray,
Yes, the 1815 / 2015 Celebrations are in Wargames Terms without Saxony but it might be of interest that there were Saxons stationed in Liege, Belgium and therefore not all too far away from the area of the 100days campaign.

It was also there that the three Saxon Grenadier Battalions, including the Leib-Grenadiers mutinied against an order of Blücher to split them to be incorporated in newly formed units of the new Prussian Province of Saxony.

Two times the order were given by Blücher to shoot those "Saxon Dogs". Two times the order was refused by von Bostell, Commander of the Prussian II. Corps and by von Zieten, Commander of the I Prussian Corps.

The Order Blüchers was to "disarm, dissolving the Battalion and BURN their Colours". As the burning of their colours would have been a too harsh treatment for "Allies" MjrGen von Bostell refused to do so. Von Bostell was therefore replaced by von Pirch I.

The Grenadiers insisted to be FIRST released from their Oath to their King BEFORE swearing an new Oath to another king.

7 of the Ringleaders were shot without trial.

Cheers,
Günter

Dear Friends,

I dont want to declare this threat dead as there are still come a few additional Miniatures to complete the picture of the Saxon Army 1810-1813. These will contain

.) Staff Officers and Generals - Brigade Plate Dr. Bunde Nr. 293 - link:
http://www.brigade-uniform-tafeln.de/in ... -1813.html
.) The once talked about so-called Skirmisher - a Chevauleger firing his carbin from the saddle - after a picture from Sauerweid - link:
http://www.napoleon-series.org/images/m ... axon21.jpg
.) The Kettledrummers on Standing Horses for the Curassiers and the Garde du Corps

Now I get time to concentrate on the next Project of the Royal Saxon Army 1869-1871. How this has grown so far in my other Thread:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5281

If you have any question please ask away, I will try to answer after the best of my knowledge. Thank You!

Cheers,
Günter

Dear Friends,

I think it was a question on this threat that leads me to show here some pictures of the recently aquired, superb Terrain boards Adrian Howe has put on sale a few month ago ->

Image

I was the one who bought them :D

I think one of the questions have been were I would play with my Saxon Army. This can now be answered

Here the Neerwinden Terrain 8' x 6' as received from Adrian:

It lays on top of my extended dining table.

Then I wanted to know how large it would be by somewhat changing the configuration of the tiles together with those I had bought at Derby in October:
(sorry about the blurred pictures :( )

And here including all Terraintiles which gives a 12' x 6' table:

Saxon Heavy Regiments are riding arround in the distance.

Dear Friends,

As announced in October I like to present some sample Chevaulegers and Hussars I have sent to Artmaster for painting. IMHO they did a fine job.

Dear Friends,

The next step in this adventure will start in mid January with sending the first Regiment of Chevaulegers to Artmaster for painting. It is my hope that the four Regiments will be finished an April so I can show them at Salute together with the Saxon Army.

Cheers,

Günter
