The raising of the Saxon Army 1699-1712

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Dear Friends,

The following five Regiments are ready:
Königin, Kurprinz, Egidy, Pistoris and Sacken. Each of them has 2 Battalions.

Here I few pictures. The first is a look along the Battle line.

Joe, Greg,

Thank You for your kind comments. Yes, I am real pleased with the look of Clarence's Flags. They are very colorful and of sharp details.

Cheers,
Günter

Gunter,

the scope of your grand vision is now becoming clear to us lesser mortals who perhaps did not have your foresight
The Saxon Army will undoubtedly be an almost unique spectacle for the period for a variety of reasons:

1. Size
2. Consistency of appearance
3. Freshness (not a subject already done to death by other gamers)
4. Aesthetics
5. Method of construction (ie team involved in putting it together)
6. Your own knowledge of your subject.

I see it as a great opportunity to enlighten the wargaming community and we should talk about from either the perspective of doing a series of articleon the LoA blog or alternatively getting it written up and published in a Mark Allen style piece for WI.

We shall correspond by sending couriers from Glasgow to Wien in relays... saddle my horse! 8)

Gunther
I am sure that they will not be like the army in the Wizard of ID comics.

"The army is deployed for battle sire
10,000 men on the left flank, 10,000 men on the right flank and 20,000 men in the centre."
"Excellent, what are they doing?"

..... "waving 40,000 white flags!"
good job yours are coloured

I am serious! 8)

On the consistency topic I was not necessarily referring to the uniform colours but more to the fact that the project was completed in a linear form in a relatively short space of time thus the layout out, basing, colours, painting style, flag orientation and general look will be very close for each unit. This will accentuate the consistency I mentioned!,... and also...

Ok, lets be serious

Here are two pictures of the future transport boxes with the sofar finished Infantry in place:

Image

The blank bases show the space left (20 Bases) or, by replacing the Artillery, 30 bases. That would be 10 Battalions or 5 of my large Cavalry Regiments.

Cheers,
Günter

As I had so far no Officers I thought it would be a great idea to add some:

Dear Friends,

After waiting and writing with my painters I am close to calling of my 'Invasion'-Plans for this Year!
Like so many attempts before my ship is running aground in front of the perfidious Albion
My 'main' painter decided for himself to not send me the orders he got in the same way I sent them but to pull all figures together to a large Package to save Delivery costs at the expense of my patience and time :?
My 'new' Painter seems to get bogged down by his time consuming job and other duties so he dont have time to finish what he has promised.

My plans seems to collapse under the circumstances..
I think it is all my fault as I pushed and tried it to hard to get things done!

A  Günter
