dont I have been locked in combat with a large number of 10mm Austrians for some time & that's the best advice I can give. All or mosly white in that scale is  even by my standards.

Try Army Painter Quick Shade. Undercoat with white, paint the flesh, facings, weapons, and boots. Apply Quick Shade. The result will be a little dingy, but perfect for campaign troops. You can highlight back to white with a few brushstrokes on the raised area of the model. The results should look pretty good with massed troops...

Its strange isn't it? There is no more surface area on an Austrian soldier than on any other Napoleonic infantry man but in spite of this they seem to take longer. In theory (my theory that is) it should be quicker because of so much of one colour meaning less mixing and prep time.

I once did an Austrian Battalion and vowed never again. Vallejo light grey, sky grey and off white since you ask.
