A couple of 28mm units for 30 Years War

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

A couple of 28mm units for 30 Years War

Post by chema1986 » Mon May 05, 2014 9:53 am

Hello Guys! here are a couple of things I have been painting these days:

First, a Spanish commander for my 30 years war "Nördlingen 1634" project. It could be my Army commander or one of the "battalia" commanders ( I´m using Pike & Shotte). The miniature itself is from Warlord Games ECW range, the Earl of Essex, but I painted it as a Spaniard like me

I got inspired by this painting from the cover of a "Desperta-Ferro" magazine special for 30 years wars... wonderful in my opinion

The Second paintjob is a saker gun , again from "Warlord Games" this represents a Spanish medium gun for 30 years war... Next will be a Swedish leather gun.

Wonderful painting. Especially the black hairs and the red are stunning! May i ask what paints did you use for this red?

Thank you mate, of course, I used "khorne Red" as a basecoat, later on I washed it with "carroburg crimson" shade paint... Later I highlighted it with Khorne red a little bit diluted with tap water, then a second highlight of khorne Red and "Mephiston Red" at 50% and a drop of water (all this paints from GW range) and another highlight with Mephiston red only... as a last highlight I mix up a some Vallejo Vermillion with Mephiston red for the last touches of light ;)
Cheers !

Wonderfull job, I'm always jelous, how good some people can make the warlord Pike and shot figures look(both metal and plastics)

I've never been able to get them to look good. not the plastic infantry or metal.

Simply superb - well done. This has to be some of the finest painting I have ever seen.
